red ghosting on lcd

#1 Post by frdchang » Fri Oct 15, 2004 6:56 pm

hello,

i get a red ghosting on the lcd edges on my t42 14 inch sxvga.

i have a black background for winxp, (i'll also notice the red ghosting on bootup)

here is the description of whats going on.

if i have a black background, and i open a window, (my windows are pretty bright with the standard white background and grey tool bars) and then i close the window, it leaves a red ghost imprint of the window... but only on the edges of the lcd and its only a couple hundred pixels that slowly fade away after a few seconds.

i was wondering if this is normal.

what is the response time of my lcd? (i just want to know...the red ghosting lasts a couple seconds, so i know its not some refresh rate issue)

thanks,
fred

I have/had that problem too. It was most apparent when my laptop was new, occuring all along the top and bottom edges of the screen, moderately bright red. But now it only appears in two spots when I transition from a red screen to a black screen (which never happens in my real use, so I have to make a powerpoint presentation to make that happen).

It bugged me a lot at first, but I didn't want to risk getting another screen with dead/stuck pixels since mine has none. And I figure after 2.5 years if the problem is still there, I can get an in-warranty screen replacement, possibly about the time when the backlight is no longer bright as it is when new.

My T41p 14'' SXVGA does exactly the same thing. As the ghosting disppears evetunally, I didn't worry about it much. But is it normal?

Yeah, for me the problem for all practical purposes went away. Before, I could see it in a low lighted room. Now, I can hardly see it at all in a pitch black room.
