SD reader killing the speed on my new X60 tablet Core 2 Duo?

#1 Post by aphex » Sun Jun 24, 2007 9:58 pm

Never seen this before but I am currently dumping about 2gb of files using the built in SD reader and my system has slowed down to a crawl, I can barely even type this paragraph without the text stuttering as it enters.... the mouse gets jerky, pages scroll and load in clumps... it seems as though the sd card reader is seriously taxing my system.

Is this normal? I would think a system as fast as this would have no problem tackling such a simple issue as dumping files from a memory card.

The X60 (and X40/X41) SD card reader is, err, not particularly well designed. It uses a lot of CPU and still has unimpressive performance. (The same is true for the X30/X31/X32 CF card reader.)

If you need to move a lot of files to/from SD cards, you are best off getting a proper SD card reader, whether USB, CardBus or ExpressCard.
