New Harddisk for R52

#1 Post by PerfectFe » Mon Jun 25, 2007 6:35 am

Hi,

I've got a R52 1846. I want to upgrade the hard disk because 60 GB are not enough ;)

But which drives are certified by IBM/lenovo? My thinkpad doesn't like the Samsung 120 GB hd, I get an notification (like "do you really want to boot from this hard disk?").

I hope you can help me...... thanks!

Just ordered a Hitachi HTS721010G9AT00. I hope it works.

Hi,

why no chance? Did you update the BIOS?
I can't report anything, my drive hasn't been delivered yet...

Let me tell you their response and save you time.
"Lenovo neither warrants or implies oem parts can be substitiuted blah blah ....void you warranty...blah blah.
I found a page, can't find it again, on this site, some kind of advanced forum, has some dos script you have to change to suit your hard drive, that sounded like the real deal. I would look harder but I sold my r52 because I am not writing dos code to install a hard drive.
Fu IBM.
These are not the good old Packard Bell days lol.

Hi,

thank you! I was able to flash the drive and I don't get a 2010 error. Great! :)

I am installing the same drive in an R52 also. Did you use the flash instructions at the supplied link for "Part B: Guide for updating retail Hitachi 5K100s and 7K100s" exactly as written? Any tips?

Hi,

yeah I used Part B. I booted from CD.
I didn't have any problems - I did everything as described.

Good luck ;-)

Thanks, I ended up creating a boot CD from the instructions in that thread and it worked great!
