X61 vs. T61

#1 Post by jhrain » Mon Jun 25, 2007 12:26 pm

Okay, I've finally saved up enough money to buy a new laptop.

I now need to decide if ultraportability is worth all the losses when you go with an X Series. Two big questions....

12" screen? Wouldn't be so bad for me except this resolution seems really low.

CPU/GPU.. I don't play games on my machine, but I'm currently using a T60 for work.. will I feel like i've taken a significant step backwards in performance? And, will I get good performance if using an external monitor (L201p, 22" LCD)?

I really love the style of an X-series laptop - yes I do (I own a T60 and a X30)! But pls consider this: The T6x comes w/ DVI connectivity trough dock, unfortunately the X6x series does't.

The performance of the new X61 is quite good -- possibly better than your T60 (depending on how your T60 is configured in terms of CPU, memory and disk).

But the screen resolution is what it is. It's a very personal decision as to whether the portability is worth having to live with 1024x768. For me it certainly is, as I am about to jump from an X31 to an X61.

I do use an external 20.1" panel (Dell 2001FP) at 1600x1200 as my desktop monitor using the VGA connector. The display quality is very good IMHO, but this could vary depending on the quality of your external panel's VGA inputs, and your own quality standards.
