3000 N100 battery recharging problem

#1 Post by barraq » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:59 pm

Hi

I am using Lenovo notebook. here is my system details

Product: 3000 N100 0768-59G
Operating system: Windows XP
Original description: T2400(1.83GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA GeForce FX Go7300, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 10/100 Ethernet, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Home

Currently i am having battery recharge problem. My system is working fine on AC power but battery is not charging. Currently it showing 0% at battery meter.

I have checked with lenovo for battery recall but they said no need for recall my battery with their automatic detect software.

For trouble shooting, Lenovo calls me to download Battery Maximiser and when I download Battery Maximiser and try to install it Error occurs saying " CAN NOT RUN ON THIS SYSTEM".

I also try to check another battery of one of my friend’s Lenovo system (N100). My system does not recharge that battery as well. Battery light at front of my system flicks 4,5 times and then goes off.

Can anyone please guide me to sort this out as it is a very serious matter at the moment.

Thanks

Battery maximiser is not supported on 3000 series, I am not sure why lenovo advised you to install it.

Try your friend's AC adapter and if the battery still won't charge then it would have to do something with the motherboard.

Also some suggestions from lenovo:
Battery does not charge

Check the following:
Is the AC adapter plugged into the wall outlet and connected to the 3000 Family notebook? If not, correct the problem and continue.
Does the wall outlet have power? Some wall outlets are connected to a switch, or the circuit may be open because of a blown fuse or circuit breaker.
Does the AC adapter power the 3000 Family notebook without the battery? If not, the fault may be with the AC Adapter or the 3000 Family notebook itself.
Is the battery too hot? You cannot charge the battery when it is too hot. If the battery feels hot, remove it from the computer and allow it to cool to room temperature. After it cools, reinstall it and recharge the battery. If you still cannot charge the battery, it will need to be serviced.

Can you power the system off the battery without AC plugged in?

system can't be on battery as it is dead(0% charged) at the moment. When I take off AC adapter , system goes off.

I have sent a query to Lenovo help staff about this but did not get much from them as yet.

You said you tried your friend's battery with no luck. Can you put your battery in his system to see the outcome?

Assuming if your friend's battery is good (works on his N100 and not yours) and no matter your battery is good/bad, I think there's a very strong indication of this situation been related to your motherboard. If it's still under warranty then I suggest you should send it back and let them have a look at it.

I check the warranty. Unfortunatly it's out of warranty according to lenovo site. I purchased it last year in April. and site says warranty is only for one year. :( Is it true that all parts have warranty of only one year ?

Depending on the warranty and perhaps region too, yes.

FYI on this laptop...

I am working on warrantying my second battery on this Lenovo 3000 n100. I just got word from my boss that his wife needs a new one as well (same machine). Was it the same issue for all three batteries? My guess is yes.

I do like the performance of this machine, but I can no longer trust it when not near a power outlet. Very similar description of scenario as above; minus the power meter issue. You unplug the power and it shuts down like a PC with the plug pulled.

If the new battery does not solve the issue then the problem could be related to the internal circuitry of the planar card that connects power supply to the power jack of the machine, if that would be the case then since the machine is still under warranty so please call IBM at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)! to avail your warranty service or take it in person to any IBM authorized repair center in your local area:

I had the same problem with my 0768-6UG, (3000 N100). Luckily it was still in warranty. After a RTB service call, it needed a new mobo and a new battery.

You could try complaining bitterly and saying that there are quite a few people with this problem. If it is pervasive, then that may be grounds for getting it replaced for free, or a nominal charge, even if it is out of warranty.

Unless you've 'dropped' the machine or something like that, you wouldn't really expect the mobo to fail in that way. The battery on the other hand is different, even with a warranty > 12 months, the battery is only covered for 12.

hey there,

i am currently having the exact same problem... very frustrating, what good is a laptop without a battery?

anyway, so what do i do now?
of course i just ran out of warranty a couple weeks ago...

is there any way to fix this problem or do i need to buy new battery, motherboard and AC Cord or an entire new laptop...???

this is soooooooooo frustrating, i didnt do anything to justify this, i always treated my battery super careful, i always undid it when i was plugged in with the AC and it was charged, i didnt even use it at all for the first 4 months or so and now, completely out of nowhere, this happens...

please help

p.s.
oh, fyi, i am german, bought this laptop in the states though, and am currently in france...
that should make it a bit harder to get help, right?

hey,

so i just got a PM by one of the admins here, guiding me to this page, which seems to provide some answers, or at least a "Mark_Lenovo" person, that seems to be very competent and eager to help, so that is nice...

i dont know why this was sent to me by PM, rather than posting it here, as this seems to be a fairly common issue and this link might be the most helpful thing i have come across so far...
so for all the others experiencing this prob, be sure to check this out:
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... 79&page=17

good luck

p.s.
i am awaiting a response to my PM from that Mark person... hopefully that'll help...

p.p.s.
its weird that almost all of the cases mentioned JUST ran out of warranty, huh?

I sent you a pm because some (new) users come to the forum and register, post about their problems and then never come back, sending a pm sends an email message to your registered email address informing you that someone has sent you a message, that way the user in question has to log in to check his/her message box to see why a message was sent.

If I had replied to the thread the probability is you would've never come back, I'm sorry if you're offended in anyway for my not replying to the thread but I do hope your problem gets resolved.

This just happened on my sister's n100 and her warranty just finished. Does anyone know if the n100's battery have a chip in it like thinkpad batteries that keeps track of discharges and other battery information?

All,

The Lenovo 3000 N100 battery and power management software does not operate quite the same way as the ThinkPad.

For the Lenovo 3000 N100 systems type 0768 and 0689 batteries exhibiting a unique set of conditions described in this technical tip, there is some help available. The warranty on qualifying batteries has been extended 6 months, for a total of 18 months from the factory warranty start date. Please consult the tip in the following link, and if you have these symptoms and qualify, please contact service for a replacement battery.

Thanks Mark@Lenovo. I let my sister know about this and she got herself a new battery for her computer. :D
