T41 RAM Upgrade ?

#1 Post by getsandy » Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:44 pm

Hi All,

I am planning to upgrade my T41 RAM. Currently I have 512 MB (2 * 256). I am planning to go for 1GB (So total 1280 MB).

Can anybody suggest me which company shall I buy?

Currently I am in Japan and RAM is little bit expensive here. Also I think i have limited options here.

My options are

1. Direct from Lenovo (Around 20000 Yens) ($ 162)

2. Transcend - 15000 Yens. ($ 121)

Thanks in advance
Sandy

PM brentpresley about the RAM he has for sale here...only 2 of them are left so you should get in touch with him quickly.

EDIT: I hope you were able to contact him before he sold out - just noticed his post about it.

I wonder why RAM should be so much more expensive in Japan compared to in the USA? A quality 1 GB stick PC2700 RAM (Crucial) cost around $ 80,- e.g. here: Newegg, so I am surprised that retail prices in Japan should be more than 50 % higher?

Alternatively, you could try to search for "Japan" in this forum, and perhaps send a PM to some of the forum members who are in Japan (and who have been actively posting here somewhat recently) - e.g. users NJ_IT, tokjdm, joykrab, bhuiyan etc. - some of them no doubt know where in Japan you get the best deal!

Buying such standard RAM directly from IBM/Lenovo of course would just double the price - and you don't get any benefit from paying that much except the pleasure of supporting them in getting bigger BMW's! :-)

Another good contact in Japan would be Bontistic, he is in Kanagawa. I have bought memory and harddrives from him. Good prices and good service. Use the search function to find his contact information.

Hi All,

Thank you very much for all the responses. I really appreciate all your help.

I was able to contact both brentpresley & Bontistic.

I got 1GB RAM at a very good rate.

Now my T41 has 1.25GB RAM :)

Once again, thanks to all.
