F1 Games crash (F1 Challenge & GP4)

#1 Post by agarza » Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:23 am

I recently installed some old games into my T42p:
EA Sports F1 Challenge 99-02 and
GP4

F1C crashes at any moment, I've to go to Task Manager and terminate the 99% CPU consumption the game is causing.

GP4 produces a error windows and the game shutdowns

Is there a workaround to this, I've played at max res of 1400 x 1050 pixels, and also 1024 x 768 with max details, but I can only drive for less than 1 min, then the image freezes.

You might try running them in an earlier compatability mode or at a lower resolution?

I think I tried installing GP4 (great game, may I add?) on my T40 last year and had some issues with choppy frame rates and the like, even though the system specs were enough to run the game. I never had any issues where the game totally shut down though. Conversely the game ran wonderfully on the home desktop with an Athlon 1600+ XP, 64MB Geforce graphics and only 256MB RAM.

Are your drivers up to date? I can't think of what else could potentially be a problem since your specs are well and truly good enough :?

An update:

I run dxdiag, and a error says:
Error: Problem getting extra sound info, result code =0x80070057 (invalid argument(s))

I'm uncertain why this, all the Audio tests in DX Diagnostic tool were OK, but that error is present still.

The weird thing is that other games I have installed plays just fine: Toca Race Driver 3, NFS Most Wanted, Carbon...

Some people report to uninstall DirectX, using a software called Directx Eradicator, but it does not work with SP2.

The Soundmax drivers Lenovo provides are somewhat old (2005), and can figure where to get the newest ones.

F1C, F2002 and GP4 played just fine in my T30.
