My T61 Arrived after 1 Month 13 days wait... 2 in crack(pic)

#1 Post by bwb » Wed Jun 27, 2007 4:05 am

Broken, the entire corner has a 2 inch crack, package wasn't messed up, it was packed well, it looks like they just shipped it with a 2 inch crack on the corner that even knocked out the page up key. Sigh, so frustrated, they are supposed to send a DHL box tomorrow and send me a new one within 5 days but im starting not to trust anything this company says.

Here are some pictures of the arrived broken t61... so much for waiting 1 month 13 days for a new laptop.

Yeah, they must have done that. Im trying to think of what the average user would have to do to cause that degree of damage on a thinkpad. Ive dropped my thinkpad, and had nothing like that.

It almost looks like someone whacked it with a hammer, but I suppose if you dropped it from high enough onto a concrete floor on it's back corner that might happen.

There are weak areas in every material, seems to me the box got slipped from the plane cargo and hit that specific point hard on the floor resulting in what you received.

Ya but it was surrounded by stryofoam and looked like their packing setup hadn't got hit. I think it got dropped or hit at the factory.

At first look, I thought someone's wife/gf got angry and slammed it with a hammer. But chances of that are minimal...

I hope you get your exchange soon.

btw i looked at box closer and the corner is pretty beat up on the box but i dont see how that would have gone through the styrofoam to cause that kind of crack.

Are you sure it came like that?
I find it hard to believe.. maybe your brotger/girlfriend/wife opened the box and it fell from their hands?

That is totally weird.. never seen anything like that knowing the packaging IBM always had (and still Lenovo has)

I hand took it from the UPS guy, signed for it, took it upstairs and 10 min later had it opened and was calling thinkpad's return department. I don't see how it could either since styrofoam was all around it, it either happened in the factory or somehow the force went through the stryofoam as the box is knocked up on the corner.

After a month and a half wait, sitting on your hands - to have it come to this! That is really the pits. I sure hope your replacement arrives quickly.

I think that the UPS guy did same crush test on this new Lenovo T61.

Keep your eyes on some recent individual crush test report, it may so happen that you will see your laptop gaining fame.

I personally doubt it left the lenovo factory like that, i'd think that someone has interfered with it on the way - was it in the orignal unopened Lenovo box with the red padlock tape?

Matter of Physics. An elastic collision occurred and it was strong enough to implement the sound waves to travel through that styrofoam.

fwiw, i've seen something similar with a guitar that was well packed inside its case which fell around 10 meters, flat on it's face. The case was still like untouched, but the g-shock alone sufficed to trash the instrument. So it could very well be ups's fault indeed.
