Results of Invisibleshield (screen protector) on X60 tablet

I have installed the invisbleshield from shieldzone on my X60 Tablet and here are the results. Note: This is after the 24 hours 'curing' time recommended by shieldzone. The step by step guide, links and pictures are in my blog

Functionality (Good)

• 1) There is no visible difference on the multiview screen, still as clear with the shield on
  2) The shield is TOUGH, I scratch it with keys, no problem

Functionality (Bad to better)

• 1) On day 1 (27 June 2007) of usuage, the tablet pen encounter MAJOR resistance when writing on the shield. This is because the shield is 'rubbery'. I can't write fluidly anymore. I estimate 60% pen effectiveness.
  2) On day 2 (28 June 2007) of usuage, pen effectiveness improves, much less resistance, estimate 75% effectiveness. I wrote to shieldzone and the reply was that the rubbery feeling will goes down after a few days of usuage.
  
  3) On day 4 (30 June 2007), most of the portion of the shield has 'set'. The rubbery feeling when writing with the tablet pen has diminish. I was able to scribble with about 80 to 85% effectiveness WITHOUT the fear of scratching my screen due to dust or whatever. Those 'pockets' areas where the screen has set, when you write on it it has good traction, the other parts where the shield is still rubbery, I guess I have to wait a few more days for the chemistry to kick in.
  
  3) Multitouch on day 2 detects my palm resting on the screen while writing. I'll calibrate it again and see if this persist. On day 4 back to normal...in the sense that using my fingers I hardly can initiate any reaction from the screen. (ie no more funcation). For me this function is not needed so I am not too unhappy about it.

4) Updated. 12 days after 'curing'. I manged to get touchscreen to work. The bubbles have disappeared and my shield works well with writing.

Summary

The shield is GOOD if you are using it on X60, X61 and on the tablet. It gives me peace of mind as now I can easily clean it with water/tissue paper as it won't scratch the lcd underneath.

I have beeing using them on my Creative Zen Vision M mp3 player and my Nintendo DS lite. I guess everyone know what NDS is...just in case someone doesn't, it's a handheld gaming console with handwriting function.

First of all, these skins are tough, after installing them you really don't have to worry much about scratching the sceen. Secondly, 24 hours is definitely not enough for the skin to set in. For the first few days you will notice bubbles under the skin and you will probably think that you have screwed up the installing process. But my experience is that they will all magically disappear about 1 week after the installation (it may take longer for skin as large as laptop screen...). Handwriting is perfect once the skin has settled in.

The problem with this skin is, it is shinely. If you don't like you screen to be shinely...well this is not the skin for you. Also, the installation is a bit tough, especially for first timer. I recommend using Windex over the solution supplied with the skin.

first, no big pix without warnings..
and if you post pix you will need to maintain them online for years..
otherwise people searching will come up with a post and no pix..

you would do best to post small thumbnails linking to the pix..

Well, in my excitment I forgot (or don't understand) about the 50K limit for pics. If it was embedded into forum site, I can understand the bandwidth expenses. If pictures were from photobucket the only problem would be the maintenance of the link as you have mentioned. Anyway this doesn't matter as it's a small matter.

I didn't know who yanked the pics so assumed it would be you. This is also a small matter as it shows that at least the moderators are doing their duties.

I don't understand about the part to mention pics in the subject line? Should we use subject like "Shield on <pics>" or <big pics> or <pictures in thread?>

I don't see what the big deal about pics is either. Takes about 2 seconds to load the page. I just choose as a rule not to question it. I can completely understand not uploading pics since it would eat bandwidth, but the warning doesn't make sense. Again, I don't care, it's the rule so I abide by it. I don't expect my kids to understand all the rules around here either.

I know exactly 1 person that is still using dial up (lives way out in the woods) and about 20% of the people I know have a verizon or sprint card, so I can't imagine 53k connections being the issue.

I'm in the middle of the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, and I use dial-up at home (and at "home" for school at Berkeley).

My school offers dial-up services for ~$15 for 6 months of service, and its the most cost effective plan since both households (home and school) can share. What do people really *need* high-speed for anyway? Checking email and forums? No, dial-up suffices. Downloads? Okay, I can update my laptop and do big downloads when I connect via wifi at school. Webcasts? Same.

Most schools have very fast LAN connections. I'm actually surprised they are still putting modems in laptops. Most normal web pages are so full of content that they would take minutes to load on a dial up.
I don't have any trouble finding WIFI almost everywhere I go. I travel a lot more than average, but not as much as most business travelers. In that case I would just go with a WWAN card (not built in).

This forum, with minimal/ no flash, etc is a rarity. I for one appreciate it, but I have no issue with a page that loads up 15-20 500k pictures. Just takes a minute.

I have been updating the blog. The inking experience is great (80% effectiveness-ie don't have that 'glassy' feeling when writing)! and I have no fear of leaving finger printmarks or scratching it.

The shield is still undergoing the curing process (after 1 week), because of the large surface area.

Just pry one end loose and tear the whole shield off. Supposely to be a non-stick, no residual substance so when I take it off, I should get back the clean glass surface.

Useful when sending for repair or selling off.

I also got one of these InvisibleShileds for my x60s.

The first shield was significantly oversized (by 5 mm each side) and shipped with only 2 tiny (I mean tiny) sprayflasks of solution which I ran out of half way through installation.

As a result, I ended up with a lot of mess on the screen. Wrote back to the InvisibleShiled people with a complaint, they apologized and shipped me internationally a properly sized replacement with a whole vat of soultion for free.

Two days ago I installed the screen with the help of a friend, and the shield installed almost seamlessly. I was too concerned with a few air bubbles and solution pockets trapped underneath despite our best efforts to avoid them, but they do seem to miraculously disappear over time, leaving a perfectly glossy and even screen.

Highly recommended in terms of quality, service, and value for the money.

is there any hope of this covering up scratches that are already present? I somehow managed to get a 3/8" scratch that catches light pretty easily, and it'd be great if this could cover up the scratch and prevent any further damage

I hardly noticed the trapped dirt (several places) with the shield on, so I guess it would help a bit on the cosmetic part. Preventing futher damage defintely yes. Only worries is the 'applicant liquid' would it gel there and cause a blog?

When I violate the picture policy in the other forums, at least the mods save the link to the pictures for me and remind me to update it.

Back to the topic: thanks for sharing your experience, I have been eying the screen protector for a while but didn't purchase it. Now, I can comfortably purchase one.
