T42 Screen Replacement

#1 Post by BruceDickinson » Thu Jun 28, 2007 2:34 am

I had an accident. Under warranty, I'm sending in my T42 to have the LCD replaced. It's a 15" Flexview SXGA+ by IDTech. Thank goodness for the Thinkpad Protection plan.

Is there any chance that the replacement LCD would not be a Flexview SXGA+ panel?
(My fear is that they might try to give me a non-Flexview/XGA panel.)

Is there anything I can do in advance to make sure the process goes smoothly and that I get the Flexview panel?

Thanks very much.

Attach a sticker to the front of the bad LCD (or tape a paper to the keyboard) stating that it is a Flexview SXGA+ , give the part number, ask the technician to replace it with the same, and tape a $10 bill to it. :). Well, I'm half joking about the $10 part, but I have done that before with a note attached "please take care of my baby, lunch is on me" ;).

They can't downgrade you to an XGA, no worries about that. The new panel might be from a different manufacturer, but it should still be a flexview.

That being said, I sent my T42 with SXGA+ matte screen in for service once, and it came back with the wrong motherboard (radeon 7500 instead of 9600), an xga screen, and lots of other downgraded or missing parts.

your mileage may vary

this was back in the pre-Lenovo days, I hear things are better now.
