Thinkpad T23 DVD-ROM. reads DVD+RW?

Hi.

Yesterday I tried to read an DVD+RW but my TP DVD ROM (SR-8176-M) didn't read it.
can this drive read ReWritable dvds? or is my DVD+RW crap (Traxdata)?

Older CD/DVD drives often have trouble reading re-writable disks, whether they be CD-RW or DVD-RW . I've heard that the trick is to use writable disks instead (this works for older CD stereo sets). Try your burned disk in a newer machine to see if it works. If it does, it's just the T23 drive.

You can try to download the Nero Info Tool, to let you know exactly what formats your optical drive will read/write.

thanks for this info! I've just tested a t23 dvd drive (the one I use in my t30 as i don't have a t23 any more) and my t30 dvd drive (makes more noise!). They seem to be identical although they have different names! They both don't read DVD+RW or DVD+R although do read DVD-R and DVD-RW....annoying, although you can purchase a new DVD+-RW drive from Lenovo (I'm pretty sure) that you can use in these machines!
