Lenovo's failing me!

#1 Post by Manarius » Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:01 pm

I always talk up how durable the IBM Thinkpad is but Lenovo's failing me! I just got my laptop back from ezserv for the third time and they broke something again!

The first time it was because the CPU Fan died and the wireless switch was broken and they fixed that. The second time it was because the keyboard failed (some keys stopped working right after I got it back the first time). I sent it back a second time and it still wasn't fixed (the keyboard problem). I sent it in again and they replaced the processor, a planar card, and the keyboard and it's fixed (the keyboard problem that is). But, now the wireless switch is broken again! I got it back and it was broken! What is up with this!? I'm going to talk to somebody at ezserv later tonight (well, they were supposed to call me a long time ago) about this. I'm not going to send it in again! This will make time number 4 if they end up making me send it in! I'm extremely disappointed in the fact that in the process of fixing things, they break others! They have good turnaround time, but maybe they should take a little bit more time to make sure they don't break stuff in the process!

I would really like them to give me a HUGE discount on the purchase of an extended warranty due to these problems - is that too much to ask?

Sorry to hear about your experience but Solectron cannot be trusted, it's either hit or miss as someone else on this forum mentioned too. I suggest if you buy a new thinkpad then go with more reliable onsite warranty instead.

Read this, you'll find plenty of useful info. including whom to contact in such situation.

I've read lots of complaints about the onsite warranty as well. I think the problem revolves around technicians that haven't had enough experience with the particular model that they're working on. Either way, it's a bummer... and either way, it's hit or miss.

**Wait... they replaced the CPU to fix the keyboard??? That's just stupid. All you needed was a keyboard. If they hadn't tried to replace your motherboard, then they wouldn't have broken your wifi switch. You should definitely complain... A LOT.

This might be a stupid question, but why are you sending it in to get the Keyboard replaced? Just do it yourself... Better yet, specify the FRU# and get a better model sent to you.

Anyways, whats past is past (I'd still say your keyboard isn't fixed if you got one of the crappier models and get a better one sent to you )

I had to get my base (of the laptop) replaced and I was very pleased with the service and turn around. Of course I removed everything on the laptop that they didn't need. Sans Keyboard, memory, and cards on the mobo. I'd recommend doing that. The less they have to fiddle with, the less they can screw up.

I did replace the keyboard - no fly - that's why I sent it in the second time. I think it needed a planar card (replaced on the third time).

Well, I'm in contact with a Customer Service Rep at Lenovo and I'll be sending my machine to Raleigh within the next few days. Hopefully this time it'll come back fixed 100% correctly.

I'm still trying to work on what they should do for me for being so inconvenienced.
