Question on A2x , T2x USB ports....

#1 Post by SaberX » Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:32 am

OK here it goes....
I have a External cd-rw/dvd-rom,slimline that used a laptop drive.
This drive has one USB port on it for when useing just the cd-rom.And has another power plug that goes into another USB port to get extra power for burnering.

I now have a nice A22P on the way.Thanks again ajkula66.
It has one USB port on it.

My question is can i use a mini usb hub coming from the single usb port from the A22p and than plug in the two usb cables into the mini usb hub and get enough power to use the burner part of the external drive?

I'm thinking you cant because even tho the mini usb hub has 4 usb ports,it still draws power from a single usb port from the thinkpad.

I'm just asking now because i have the mini usb hub here now.Just waiting for the A22p to show up to try it out.Or maybe i should just look for a pcmcia usb card.

Thanks
Bill

I can't 100% answer your question, but if I were in your situation I'd play it safe and buy the PCMCIA card. The sheer fact that it will give you USB 2.0 should make purchasing one a no brainer.

A powered hub (one that plugs into the wall to supply 5vdc to USB devices) should work.

If you buy a PCMCIA card make sure you get one that comes with a cord to plug in to a usb port. On my A20m the PCMCIA card didn't have enough power to drive my 60g external drive. But you can't beat having USB 2.
