Clean-up new T61 with Vista Ultimate

#1 Post by brrmax » Fri Jun 29, 2007 3:39 pm

Just received my T61 with Vista Ultimate. There is a LOT of software under the SWTOOLS directory taking 2GB. For instance, there is Earthlink setup/registration software that I won't use, but I don't see it in the list of programs to uninstall thru control panel. Is it OK to just delete its subdirectory?

does deleting the directory clean it ALL out?

For example I know there's all sorts of links to the directory in the vista control panel welcome screen. Poking around on the Internet it seems one should be able to delete it from the oobe.xml file and it should disappear but I tried and it didn't seem to work. So I'm wondering if there are registry entries or other hooks for some of this crap that need to be removed also?

On my lenovo running Ultimate I just went through the add/remove programs to get rid to the stuff i didn't need, as I have done on all my thinkpads as well.

I did that too but it didn't clear that swtools directory or the control panel welcome screen. Did i miss something or do yo ustill have all that bloat also? (or are you saying you used add/remove and then manually deleted the folder?)
