The majority of less than positive comments don't surprise me at all. Photography work is excellent, but the product just doesn't look at all worthy of its premium tag.

+5K factor = Exactly my thoughts.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I think the majority of people are looking at this model the wrong way. They are looking at it from the utility point of view first and from the aesthetic point of view second.

It is a work of art. I think it looks nice. But as in all artwork, taste is in the mouth of the beholder [pun intended]. The point of the price tag is to make it exclusively limited to a small select group of people.

Think of the obscene amount of money people will pay for a baseball card, a well-worn antique, or for a pair of tennis shoes. The high price is part of the attraction. It means that it is not for the plebeians.

If it were an Art work yes I would agree with you. But it happens that we are taling about a technological industry, wich produces highly specialized and usable electronic equipement where function precedes form, better if the object is a beauty. But what is beauty in such a case? Functionality, Performance, Usability Build quality, materials, ask Richard Sapper what does he think about this issue...

"But it happens that we are taling about a technological industry"

Doesn't matter. Take a look at the following for example.

Or Vertu:
http://www.vertu.com/homepage.jsp?lang=en

Nokia electronics inside, but with designer covers (I do like the Nurburgring edition!), priced from $6K to $60K.With a concierge service included.

Next to these, the ThinkPad Reserve Edition is positively restrained. :)
