Windows XP SP2 will not detect wi-fi card on T43P

#1 Post by mog » Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:11 am

Hello all,

I have a strange problem. I have a T43P with an onboard 802.11 a/b/g card, but Windows won't detect it.

If I go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab --> Device Manager --> Network adaptors, it doesn't even appear in the list.

I have checked that the "internal wireless" device is enabled in Bios setup (not Radio Off).

I know that there is onboard wireless, because I can see it on Linux, and in Linux the wireless light (at the bottom of the LCD where the battery, caps lock, battery lights are) is flashing. Under windows it isn't.

There's also a sticker on the bottom of the machine that says "802.11 a/b/c Mac Address blablabla". I even wondered if I was somehow going crazy and had got a machine without an onboard wireless, but I don't think this is the case.

I did try going to ibm.com and downloading the latest drivers, but it doesn't do much good because windows doesn't even know that there's a network card there to have drivers for.

The machine is still under warranty, I've had it for a year but not tried wireless on it as we didn't have that at home a year ago.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

PC

Welcome to the forum! :)

Do you know what brand your wireless card is? I'm assuming you are since you've already tried downloading drivers, but if not, type your model number into the box at the Support area of lenovo.com, then check the brand and download drivers from the maker's site as opposed to the support site.

I had to do this with my T42 that I got last week since the 2200BG in it wasn't detected. Went to the Intel site, downloaded the right driver, installed it and all has been fine after that.

No joy, I'm afraid. According to tabook.pdf, it should be an Intel 2915ABG. I downloaded the drivers and installed them and in the message box after installation it says "No device detected".

you should right click on My Computer, go into Properties, go to the Hardware tab, and then open up the hardware profiles and all that [where it lists your hardware by type] and then at the top click on scan for new hardware], if it doesn't come up with that, then theres a problem with it.

Done that, and there isn't a wireless adaptor listed. I guess I may have to take it into the shop.

Got slightly further.

Under Control Panel --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager --> System Devices was something called 82801 PCI Bridge which was disabled. I enabled this and did "Scan for hardware changes" and now XP will detect the adaptor.

Downloaded all drivers and installed latest versions, but still no joy. I noticed something odd though.

I can't see an item for "WLAN Protocol" when I go to the General tab of the Properties property sheet of the wireless connection. I can't seem to see where I can install this either.

Any ideas..?

After uninstalling and reinstalling drivers multiple times, can get WLAN Protocol.

However... now the problem is that WPA does not work (unauthenticated access does).

I should post this under a different thread title because the existing thread title is now no longer valid.

"city and/or state"... in your case the city and country will be adequate.

Cheers,
