T61 RAM usage? Vista?

#1 Post by Steel185 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 12:58 pm

Just got my T61 and love the performance, but I only ordered it with 1g (2x512 sticks) and plan on upgrading here in a few weeks but the usage on vista is so high. Is anyone else's this high. Just booting it up and idling its around 600-700mb. I don't know if its all this bloat software they ship with but I'm actually considering a reinstall (only had the machine 5 days now) just to get it to normal 200ish mb range. Suggestions?

That is about typical.

RAM usage in Vista is different than XP due to a different philosophy. Vista's philosophy is that unused RAM is wasted RAM, and so it tries to cache all kinds of things to make performance faster.

I appreciate it. So if I get 2 sticks of 1gig of RAM it will still do the same thing? I should basicly not worry about it untill i see a performance problem?

Vista is fairly sluggish without 2GB of ram, which is a de facto minimum....
