Would upgrading LCD on laptop, void the warranty on laptop?

#1 Post by impedance » Sun Jul 01, 2007 1:44 am

Ok. people. I gotta a IBM thinkpad R60 9462-CTO.

It came with an XGA with 1024 x 768 max resolution, which i dont really like it much.

So, i am thinking of buying an SXGA+ LCD as mentioned in the lenovo website, the exact part number 13N7128.

Neways, my question is: If i do this upgrade on my laptop, would it void the 3 yr warranty on the laptop??

thanks.

Yes, I think it would.

I have a very similar model, and the exact same idea.

I phoned them up and they said I have to bring it to an IBM reseller/repair place. I would be charged labour to put the screen in.

@Rizo:

Well, i already spoke to an authorized IBM reseller/repairer about this upgrade. The store name is COMPUTER SYSTEM CENTRE. http://www.csctoronto.com/store/index.php

I just wanted to find out how much it would cost me if they bring in the LCD and all other necessary parts to do this upgrade.

After a couple of days, this lady called and said the upgrade including labour would cost close to $900 CAD. I was like.. forget it lady.

Ah.. I will call them again tomorrow and will ask them if they would install the LCD if i provided them with one.. etc. So, i guess that might work.

Rizo, that service store will order the part from IBM/Lenovo itself. The LCD will cost u.. $1000  Thats how lenovo prices them. They dont want consumers making their laptops work with these upgrades, but instead they prefer u buy a new one.. fuk them..

Neways, to get it cheaper u gotta purchase the LCD from a 3rd party seller like: http://www.lcds4less.com and then have it installed from an authorized IBM/lenovo service provider like above. Their labour charge in installing the LCD is $180. A little pricey..actually. This way u wont lose the warranty on the rest of the laptop, but just only on the screen. Also, the 3rd party seller provides 30 day warranty on the LCD. I am just hoping..that they work fine.

Yep. My screen is 15 inches. If i wanna go with SXGA+ I have to find a 13N7128 model. lcds4less have that model with them.

And yours being 14" XGA and if ur planning to get a 14" SXGA+ screen, according to lenovo website..here r the models:

Samsung 13N7118

BOE-Hydis 13N7120

TMD 13N7132

For some reason, the website lcds4less is not returning any models entered from above. So, i guess u gotta give them a call.
