Writing texture changed?

I just noticed that my screen texture on my x61 is smooth now. When I write, it's like writing on glass.

When I first got the tablet, the screen texture was rough and more paper-like. There was also some unevenness.

However, now, it's just uniform smooth writing.

I was just wondering if this was normal and what your writing surfaces feel like.
