t-40 battery charge problem

purchased used t-40 arrived with doa battery
installed new battery: light shows charging
but battery will not charge : removed and
re-installed: still will not charge?
chk ac charger ok will run computer plugged in.

Likely the charging circuit on the motherboard is bad.

I had a similar problem with my T40.
(it started a month after the IBM warranty ended)

Battery light showed yellow, Battery MaxiMiser showed no charging current.

I let it run on battery until it died, then left it plugged in for some 48 hours.

Did this twice, and have never had the problem again.

Maybe the charging circuit has to synchronize with the battery circuit?

Anyway, it's a no-cost "fix".
