X40 ATA bus speed?

#1 Post by akeskira » Tue Jul 03, 2007 6:19 am

I've been thinking about replacing the ultra slow 1.8" HD with an UDMA CF card using a ATA-CF adapter. Fast flash memory is expensive, so to avoid paying extra, I need to know how fast the ATA bus is in the X40. Any ideas?

Ultra ATA 100. The fastest CF cards available max out around 45MB/s read, 35MB/s write speeds, and they're expensive, and small (8GB max).

Long-term, faster SSD drives are probably the best option. Remember though that CF has a limited number of write cycles, so back up early and often.

Hi,

There are quite few people here who would really like to do the same. Could you keep us updated ? Exactly which CF-IDE adapter do you use, which CF card, etc...

Thanks!
