Advanced Mini-Dock No DVI only VGA

#1 Post by SLoweCSL » Tue Jul 03, 2007 2:50 pm

Starting this morning my external LCD monitor no longer receives a signal via the DVI connector on the Lenovo advanced mini-dock.

I have verified that the LCD is fine via DVI by plugging into another system. The LCD works from the VGA connector on the dock but gives no signal to the DVI port.

In Windows device manager with both connectors plugged into the dock, both connector types show up, digital and analog.

I have tried switching cables, no luck. The display driver has not changed. Is there any diagnostics I can run on the dock itself?

System specs...

Lenovo T61
Bios 1.09
Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.0ghz Centrino Pro
2048mb DDR2 667mhz
1024mb Intel Turbo Memory (NA with XP)
NVidia Quadro NVS 140M 128mb w/TurboCache (Geforce Go 8400M GT)
Hitachi 160gb 5400rpm HD
Matshita UJ-852 DVD+RW Combo
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
Intel 82566MM Gigabit
Intel Wireless 4965AGN 802.11a/g/n
Bluetooth Wireless
XP Pro SP2(32bit)

Thanks

How exactly are you going about enabling the DVI from the Thinkpad?

When I plug the laptop into the dock I plug the LCD into the DVI port of the dock and it worked up until yesterday.

Did you also check Presentation Director if a appropriate profile was selected? If you have a profile for analog monitor then the dvi port would be switched off.

Does your system "Think" that it's connected to a DVI monitor? That is, do you see two screens in the Display Properties window? If so, then my guess is that you have a hardware problem with your video subsystem. If not, then you have a software/BIOS configuration problem.

I've never installed Presentation Director.

I do have 2 screens, but one of them may be the laptop LCD. In device manager I have the following under monitor...

Dell 2007WFP (Analog)
Dell 2007WFP (Digital)
Plug and Play monitor

I uninstalled all 3 under device manager, rescanned for hardware changes and all 3 were put back in the list again.

This feels like a hardware problem you me. Here's one more test you can do: Go into your BIOS, Config->Display and set your boot screen to External DVI. Then, reboot. If you see the boot screen on your DVI, then it's software. If you get no picture over your DVI, then I'd say you've got a hardware problem.

You may want to update your BIOS to the latest because when you call EasyServ, they'll ask you if you've done it anyway.

Thanks I just tried that and it did work. I changed the display to DVI-LCD and it came up on the DVI port. Funny thing is that I have not messed with the bios or reset it to defaults prior to it not working.

You are correct that they did ask me if I was running the latest version, I was it is 1.09.
