Happy Hotdog day!

#1 Post by bill bolton » Tue Jul 03, 2007 8:20 pm

Happy 'hotdog' day (*) to all those is the US!

Cheers,

Bill B.

* Every 4th of July celebration run by US citizens that I have attended anywhere in the world outside of the US has involved serving "real American hotdogs" as a major part of the activity.

I get to write an 8 page paper on 1930s-40s economic issues whilst my friends ride mopeds in Martha's Vineyard and the family is at the Cape house in Chatham, Massachusetts. Fun huh?

Oh Pete, I went to Martha's Vineyard many moons ago at the tender age of 23 and rode mopeds. That is a magical place, I will never forget the fantastic smell of that island. Good luck with the paper.

Euuwwww, no! I'm talking about beef and pork hash from some little hole-in-the-wall bbq place out in the country that's been cooking it all night. Mmmmmm....

I'm back home now and am stuffed, but no fried chicken - my aunt wasn't feeling up to it this morning. (Well, she is in her mid-80's and had made a luscious pound cake to go with the homemade ice cream - we have to cut her some slack over the chicken! )

Thanks Bill Bolton, for your kind rememberance of OUR independance day celebrations..
through political ineptness the government of George III lost the real Jewel in the British Crown, when America got [censored] and, against all odds, won our independance..

for me, the "good old american tube steak" is a wonderful delight..

i slice them down the center, grill them until charred on the outside, toast a bun and after lavishly spreading Frenches brand mustard and sweet pickel relish on the bun and dog, enjoy what is a simply delightful interlude communicating with my tummy.. :)

i don't want to forget to mention the Herr's Brand Sour Cream and Onion Chips from PA or the Coca Cola from Atlanta without which the ultimate "dog" would not be complete.. :thumbs-UP:

Boy does that bring back memories. 30 years ago on a road trip to Florida, we stopped at 2am at some road side shack (restaurant) in South Carolina because we smelled the lure of the cooking bbq. There is was, a huge 100 gallon drum rotating atop a wood fire stove. We had the most delicious pork bbq right there on the side of the road, listening to the cougars (??) meowing in the distant woods. It was so worth it :P

There's a Coke museum in Atlanta, very cool place me and wife #3 went there whilst vacationing around the time they were cleaning up the city for the Olymipics :)

Now you're talking, those are my personal favorite (with cheddar). I enjoyed the traditional hotdogs, hamburgs, homemade potato salad, and local sweet corn on the cob. Happy 4th everyone.

I had a T-bone steak, corn on the cob, and rice for my 4th of July meal. Nothing says American Independence like a big fat juicy T-bone steak :D

What, no CHEESE? :)

With all this talk about "hash" and "coke" going around, I hope that the DEA agents monitoring this board realize we're talking about FOOD here, right  ?

I believe the menu tonight is a couple of steaks on the propane BBQ in the back yard. Got a couple of dogs in the 'frig but I doubt that they'll go on the flames. Saving them for some chili later on this week...

Have a happy 4th everyone!

Thanks Bill but as you can see from other posts we certainly do more than Hot dogs at home.

So much talk about food has already made my mouth go :P. However, I am thinking about southern style juicy and tender prime rib roast, with some cold .

If he's not the poster boy for American gratuitous consumption, I don't know who is :) .

There was a story in the local paper (San Jose "Murky" News) about him yesterday:

Just too gross. Now I like to eat, but my hotdog limit with bun is two, maybe two and a half if they have Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard 8)

I think the winners of food contests like that should be required to spend part of their winnings and buy food for a local soup kitchen.

Sorry for the OT

A hotdog king and a T23 king in the same town?? Who'da thunk it??

I had my own little bit of US nostalgia yesterday when I came across a Massachusetts quarter. They can at times be confused for Australian 10 cent coins somehow. I can add it to my Maryland quarter that I came in possession of last year. :)

And to conclude, all this steak talk is making my stomach grumble too much.

FWIW, there was a story on the news yesterday that 75% of all American households will have hot dogs on the 4th. We did, among other things. :)
