Will my T41 components in a T43? SATA vs. PATA?

#1 Post by hydrostarr » Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:23 am

I own a T41 2378DHU and considering purchasing a used T43 machine with a warranty and use my T41 as a backup (my budget is lean at the moment).

Will all my T41 compents work with a T43? In particular, I'm interested in spare batteries, ultrabay-2nd-drive caddy, 2" disk drives, power supply/transformer...and I think that's it.

One big question: is the T43 a PATA or SATA based machine and/or will it accept both (eg, a pata/sata bridge)?

This reference:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T43

mentions a pata-to-sata bridge which may cause problems in Linux. I'm an Ubuntu user (although not exclusively), and this may be problematic for me if these things are not addressed. I'll probably start a separate thread on this.

All the spare parts will work. The T43 uses PATA drives so they will physicall fit, but you may get the 2010 BIOS error

Ok, good. And for my own reference, here's the reference to the 2010 BIOS error issue:

Fortunately, my 7K100 (80gb) drive appears to be fixable per this issue:

Also, for those tracking the Linux/Ubuntu issue with T43/SATA:

Thanks for all the info.

I forgot to ask: will my 2GB of memory I currently have in my T41 work in a T43?

Also: is the T43 the "last" model in the T4x series?

It looks as if the T41 uses PC2700 and the T43 speaks PC2-4200.

I guess the question becomes will PC2700 sticks work in a PC2-4200 slot, which I doubt.

I'm still interested in this answer.

no a T43 uses DDR2 while the T40 uses DDR1 (@ 266mhz) The T41 and T42 uses DDR1 (@ 333mhz) so to answer that question, your Memory wont work. Good thing tho is that 1GB of DDR2 costs about $40 while 1GB for your T41 costs about $100. So cheaper memory for you.. (lucky devil!)

The T43 is the last model of the T4x line. There has never been a Tx4 as far as i know (that being, T24, T34 T44 - i don't even think there was a T31 or 32 or T33 :) )
