Lenovo had an option for customers to choose between Titanium or black lids on select Z-series model(s). Titanium added extra weight and some rigidity to it's look. However, lid/covers couldn't be ordered separately from lenovo unless you had to buy a Z-series machine. Also, Z-series has been phased out and lenovo no longer sells it on US website.makaveli559m wrote:I wonder how do you order the Titanium cover for the Thinkpad? Does anyone know how to do that? And how to put the cover on?
But if you like to dress up your laptop you can buy such things on ebay or elsewhere online. Dressing them should not be any hard imho.
P.S. Please do not hijack someone's else topic, always start your own thread if topic is not related.

I ordered a Z60m as a close-out that was only available with the black PVC lid. After referencing the hardware maintenance manual I located the part number for the titanium cover. The maintenance manual will refer you to extra parts that you do not need, namely titanium specific hinges. The standard Z series hinge is the heavy duty titanium specific hinge which is why it feels so heavy for the PVC lid. The titanium lid was about $75.00 last year from IBM parts which is half of the cost difference of the factory installed lids.
The replacement of the PVC cover is pretty involved as you must remove the lid/lcd from the base and disassemble the lid/lcd. The titanium cover looks like it is just a cover over a separate frame but it is not. The PVC and/or titanium cover form the framework for the lid/lcd, wireless antennas and lid latch. This is why the lid needs to be completely disassembled from the PVC cover and reassembled in the titanium cover. The process will take about 90min. to 2 hours if you are comfortable with laptop disassembly. When removing the wires for the wireless antenna pay particular attention to how they are routed first as this will save some headaches when you rebuild the lid in the titanium cover.
It is not impossible to do it just takes some time, patience and close attention to the hardware maintenance manual.
