A couple of X61t pre-buy questions

#1 Post by DavidNY » Thu Jul 05, 2007 7:25 am

A couple of Qs on the X61t (without mobile bb)...

What is the difference between getting a CTO and a 7767-96U, such as

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/L ... 6U/L42146/
(Topseller X61 Tablet L7500 1.6g 2gb 120gb Dvdrw 12.1-sxga+ Bt Bfp)

I notice this comes with a 3 year warranty, whereas CTO comes with one. Is that the main difference?

On the CTO page I see these options for wireless cards:

Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [add $21.25]
ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ [add $0.00]
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Free upgrade for a limited time.

What's the difference? Is "N" worth it? I thought there might be a heat issue with Intel wi-fi cards. Which one has the old-school antenna?

Thanks,
David

CTO is Configure-To-Order, so the options can vary widely. The TopSeller models are preconfigured, and generally have attractive prices, but cannot be heavily optioned. TopSeller models from resellers will probably ship much more quickly than CTO models from Lenovo direct.

Wireless 'n' can be significantly faster ... provided that the network infrastructure supports it, and there is not too much interference from other wireless activity.

Old-school antenna? Are you referring to the pop-up antenna for WWAN?

Thanks, Tom.

I guess I'll go for the N (last option) for futureproofing.

I recall seeing an antenna that looked like a telescoping antenna from the X60... maybe it was just the WWAN; http://www.luiswatkins.com/x61/x61blogging.htm (last paragraph) says it was a joke :-)
