A30 no run XP but ok Win9x 7-8-2007, UPDATE INFO,NEED HELP

Hi, to my collection of 21 thinkpads I added 2 A30s.(they were cheap on ebay $40ea) One works fine after adding all stuff for
up to date laptop. the 2nd A30 will not:
1. run WinXPsp2, same installation and HDD, ok on 1st A30,
no run on bad A30,
2. clean install, everthing loads off CD but Win no run

things tryed:
1. Took 512 ram from good A30, no run
2. removed, 2 CD drives, 2 network adapters and dialup
modem, battery. no run
3. Both A30s have passed Diagnostics test from IBMs
-Lenovos 3 FFdiskets.
UPDATE: 1. Not file system i tried install Xp with FAT instid of NTFS.
2. From dual boot Win ME sel, starts and runs fine so loaded Xp install disk, set up loaded but windows no start to complete install or repair Xp. NOTED HDD NOT RUNNING WHEN
WINDOWS STARTS UP(SOMETIMES TAKES MORE TIME BUT I LET
TRY TO RUN FOR 2 HRS). HDD runs(lite on) for WinME.

NEXT: Maybe Hdd firmware update needed, i did and tryed BIOS and Embeded bios Have DL ISO image for HDD Firmware boot
CD. Made boot CD. BUT ONLY GET A: iso IS ON cd.

AND GET THIS: Bad A30 runs Win9xs(ME) just fine.

Win startup was stopping,, hanging, after agp.sys or scan the disk step instartup seq.
that is why WinME startedup ok and so did old eval copy of Win Vista.

real trouble: pin connection on HDD connector to HDD.
