any suggestion for the best antivirus & video editing?

#1 Post by rbi » Thu Jul 05, 2007 6:26 pm

Antivirus for my old T23 and new R61. Now bitdefender got the special for 2 PCs and 2 years for $49.95. I tried it in my T23 but it is quite slow. I like their live chat support. How about compared to NOD32? Also for video editing, any good one for my Sony DCR SR 300? THe file format will be .mpg. Thanks.

the best AV I have seen is NOD32 (see the ad on top, forum members get a small discount).
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Another vote for NOD32 but I believe the discount offer has expired.

This discussion is also a part of How to FAQ.

Thanks Gator. But that discount already expired and only was limited to the US and Canada members for boxed format. No download version. I know NOD 32 is quite good but a little bit more expensive than Bitdefender.

I used BitDefender9 for a year, before that, I had just about everything else. Now I have NOD32, especially for a laptop, I can't think of a better AV program. BD was a good program as well, but NOD32 uses way less computer resources, perfect for a laptop. You can get OEM versions of NOD32 at newegg.com, whatever you pay, it''s worth it.
Video editing? I use Premiere Pro on my workstation, I have Vegas as well, but for a laptop, I might check out Ulead VideoStudio. Premiere and Vegas need lots of memory and CPU. If your computer is USB 2.0, I strongly recommend an external hard drive you can use as a capture drive, it works better that way. All the "entry level", that is about $100 or less, video editing software offer trial versions, I'd check them out and see what works best for you. I can't recommend Pinnacle stuff at all. You can try VirtualDub Mod, it's basic, but it's free.

Kapersky is another good AV program. Since they both do a good job with viruses and malware, I wonder if Kapersky or NOD32 has the smaller footprint?
This type of discussion goes on and on over here.

V-COM's SystemSuite uses Trend Micro's PC-Cillin anti-virus engine. This is the most efficient (least intrusive) antivirus engine tested.

Previously my 850MHz TP600X had Norton Antivirus (ARGH!) which, whether enabled or not, slowed my laptop horribly.

SystemSuite's antivirus is nice and efficient, there is only a small impact on performance.

However, say you are working on an airplane on battery power. You can disable the antivirus and experience a smalll performance increase, while saving loads of battery time.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered!

Ever since I've tried out AVG Free Antivirus, I've used it. I've no idea if NOD32 is "better" in terms of features, use of resources,... but I've had no problems with virusses and the like with AVG (and offcourse fact that I don't just click on every file/download helps too, most virusses probably involve human "malthinking"), don't have a slow experience with it and well... it's free  .

As for the video editing in the $50-$100 range, I've found Magix Video Deluxe (I think they renamed it to Movie Edit Pro) to have quite advanced features and working really well for it's price, check it out :) .
