No Audio on A31

#1 Post by Jonnygm » Fri Jul 06, 2007 12:48 pm

Hey Everyone,

I have an A31 running W2K and can't seem to get the Sound to work properly. Everything looks ok in device manager and it's not muted, the buttons on the keyboard even work. All I get is beeps. Can't get the sound pic to show on the task bar either. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Have you tried updating the drivers? Also, you can go to Lenovo's website and download the drivers from there if updating doesn't work. You can uninstall and reboot to let the OS search for the drivers.

I had a similar problem at one time. Cured by un-installing SoundMax and then having the Software Installer re-install SoundMax.

Don't know if that will work for you, but .....

hi,

Im having the same problem with my A31. i tried recovering the system to no avail. actually, soundmax didnt even show after the recovery. i d/l'ed it and tried installing it, keep getting a " driver not found, reboot and run this setup again" error. in pc doctor's sound test only the beeps work, nothing else. every program ive tried using to find an audio device shows no audio device. device manager doesnt show an audio device. everything is greyed out in the sounds and audio devices folder in control panel. is it possible the internal sound card is dead? even tho i get the beeps.

Sam

This is a common fault on A31. Intel 8**** (something or the other, I've forgotten its full number) chip is defective and will show up exactly as described above.

If in doubt, borrow a "live" Linux CD from someone, and see whether that makes a difference. Most likely it will not.

Unfortunately, I don't know the cure for this.
