Bottom bar icons too large?

#1 Post by dd » Mon Oct 18, 2004 2:45 pm

Hi
It was fine, but then I changed some display properties and it has gone small. So I have changed the font scaling...............but now the icon bar at the bottom of the screen shows the icons larger than they were before............. any ideas?

Thanks for any replies

Not sure which "icon bar" you're talking about - the quicklaunch/notification area? The start menu?

First step would be to go to Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> General and set your display DPI setting back to "Normal size (96 DPI).

Also, in Display -> Appearance, if you change "Font Size" to "Large" or "Extra Large", it will affect the scaling of icons in the notification area/quicklaunch. This will also occur if you go to the Advanced tab and change the various text size settings there.

If you're talking about the Start Menu, you can right click it, select "Properties", "Customize" Start Menu, and choose "Small Icons."

That bar is called the Taskbar, it has the Start Button (if you haven't removed it) on one end & the Clock on the other (the Taskbar is actually between the two).

If on XP Pro (or maybe others) it's controlled by the Active Title Bar size setting:

Display properties
Appearance
Advanced
For item: select "Active Title Bar" in the drop down menu and change it's size

Here's another problem: My taskbar is two rows high. I like the text size set to "large" instead of normal.
If I do this, the clock only shows the time and day of week.

What I want now is either of the two following:

-Change the text size of the clock selectively, so that it's normal for the clock, but large for the rest of the taskbar. Then it would show the time, day of week, and the date.

-or even better, show the time, but instead of the day of week, show the date...

I am sure there must be a place in explorer.exe or the registry where you can tweak this. Or there's an official possibility I have been too stupid to disvocer yet...
