T60 Hard Drive Compatibility

#1 Post by dtzihe » Sat Jul 07, 2007 3:17 pm

I am planning to move my current Toshiba 5400RPM 120gb hard drive to the Ultrabay slot with the adapter. I would like to buy a new 7200 primary hard drive, but the only brands I can find on newegg are Hitachi and Seagate. Do these brands fit well inside the Tt60 hard drive slot? I ask because I have never changed the hard drive on a T60 before, but on my old laptop, I remember I was not able to fit a Fujitsu. Thanks.

(Physically) Replacing the HD in a T60 takes about 5 minutes. I have used Fujitsu, Hitachi & Toshiba 60gb HDs in my T60 with no priblems. AFIK all 2.5" SATA HDs are the same size and configuration. Check this link: http://www.drivesolutions.com/cgi-bin/s ... pe=Slaptop

Go for the seagate that has a 5 year warranty.

For the moment Seagate and Hitachi are the only ones making them which is why you can only find them. I've seen both. They perform the same. The five year warranty wouldn't sway me much as I never keep a drive that long. Something bigger/better always comes along before the warranty is close to expiring.

There is also a concern about HDAPS compatibility.

You don't need to.
Hard Drive Active Protection System is a feature of the thinkpad not the harddrive.
read this

Basically, sensors in the thinkpad detect motion. when that motion is beyond the threshold set by user, it immediately tells the harddrive to park the heads.
It even works in the ultraslimbay.

Any 2.5 sata harddrive will do. Not just hitachi.
