X40 gives IRQLESS_ BSOD when using built-in VPN in Vista.

I'm at a university that forces me to login via windows VPN. Within 30seconds after I login, the system suddenly goes BSOD with reference to the file ndiswan.sys. I also have a stationary PC and everything works well there.

Anyone else with Vista on a X40 that could see if this happens with their laptop as well? I'm using the Intel BG2200 WLAN solution.
I have the latest Intel Pro 100 and BG2200 Drivers with only the neccesary IBM drivers + active protection installed, pretty much a clean install of Vista.

The advanced settings for the Security tab of VPN is: unencrypted password, MS CHAP version 2, and optional encryption.

I don't know. Any VPN I tried with Vista failed which is why I am not using it. Apparently CISCO has a Vista client but I don't have any CISCO business clients. The whole lot at Microsoft are apparently clueless about business, because they left business behind when they made Vista. Even the Microsoft TechNet emails acknowledge that. ... JDH

Thanks for the reply.

Actually I kinda found out something just now:

I just got a NDISWAN.SYS BSOD on my stationary PC as well. And that was because I had to change hostname for the VPN server because the one I was using was down. So I changed it to the same as I had tried to use on my X40 and boom! BSOD!

In other words I just have to use a VPN connection without encryption, luckily my university does support that as there are several servers that support/ does not support /enforces encryption.
I'm typing this right now on my X40 so this is probably confirmed. I'm glad it wasnt an IBM hardware problem or anything. But enough rambling..:)

I did not get any of those error codes. I connect as normal and it works for like 1 to 10 seconds, before the BSOD comes.

I did however try those tips out. (Changing the registry so that Vista supports 40bit encryption) Still getting the BSOD. Probably it's a bug in the file NDISWAN.SYS itself, wwhich is in charge , among other things, of VPN encryption.

It might be that you will never get it working properly until the VPN software is updated. However, here is something else to look at.

The Microsoft Extensible Authentication Protocol-Message Digest 5 (EAP-MD5) implementation is being deprecated from versions of Windows
