old ez-serve number?

#1 Post by peggy » Mon Oct 18, 2004 4:42 pm

Is the old EZ-Serve number (800-772-2227) gone?

I tried it and was told it was disconnected.

I was able to get to ibm for the help I needed but was just curious.

Thanks . . . Peggy

It's 800 887-7435. Has been for years.

Don't rely on all they say. I called to inquire on a larger HDD and they insisted that a 20GB is the max even though I repeatedly told them I see larger drives available on IBM.com.

Go figure!

Selvan,

I'm sure that what they said is the 20GB HD is the largest HD that's "supported".

Meaning, that's the largest HD that IBM has tested in that particular system. The largest HD IBM "supports" in the 600X is a 20GB, even though we all know that they will run just fine with the latest 100GB HD.

James,

I'll highlight that the conversation began with the fact that my warranty had already expired. Simple business techniques would want to promote sales but this guy kept insisting that largest drive I could fit was a 20GB, period.

I think if I was to have just called back and spoke with a different sales person it would have been different.

Selvan,

If you were speaking to a sales wonk, he was reading from a script containing the "correct" corporate position.

These aren't free-thinkers we're talking about, they're sales drones, and the only info they have access to is that shown on the IBM sales website which, given the age of your X20, will be little to none.

Than it's true, don't simply accept what they say (sales will answer the # called). Ask to speak to a tech to confirm (if need be).

No, sales doesn't answer the 800 887-7435 number I posted, only support.

But, even first tier support reps are reading from scripts and will parrot the corporate thought.

Well, call the person answering the phone what you may but none the less he/she is an IBM Rep and I'm glad I didn't accept the outcome of the call because otherwise I'd still be putting on a 20GB.
