What's your resolution of the monitor you will drive?
If what you suggest works,(there is no reason not to) I think the level of smoothness will be a factor of the resolution of your screen.
More pixels, more power needed. (xga will be smoother than sxga+)

You might have problems with a dual monitor setup as the limiting factor will be the t40's internal gpu...

i still think that this isn't the right time to use Vista as it might drain the power consumption as what we can see from T6x and X6x series thinkpads.

2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful

Its highly unlikely that will support Aero.

Cheers,

I just wanted to use the T40's native LCD screen and connect a Dock II with a compatible PCI card in it if I disabled my internal video card would I be able to have aero with a BFG Nvidia 6200(or any compatible card for that matter)?
I know it supports aero and some people say it's the most compatible card with the Dock II.Thanks

This won't work. The native display is connected to your T40's Radeon7500 GPU, no matter what kind of videocard you'll build in your docking station.

That's right. An external card is for running an external monitor. You MIGHT be able to get an external monitor running off that video card with Vista, but I predict troubles. I tried this with a T42, Dock II, and NVidia 6200 BFG and could not get Vista to work with it at all.
