I won't be happy if they don't bring out a 14'' widescreen with the 256MB FX 570M.

Definitely. I guess we'll have to wait and see. But to be honest, I'm quite reluctant to buy a Thinkpad for all that money if the screen brightness/quality is as sub-par to other brands as is being reported.onix wrote: Twist my arm, I agree too, but in >= WSXGA+

It seems that 14.1 4:3 T61p are already available, at least in France, see
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/fr/products.nsf/ ... p/_UI03DHV
But looking at tabook.pdf it seems that it's only discrete graphic cards (for all t61p and for all 4:3 SXGA+ t61)

When the N200 has a better screen than the Thinkpad line you know something's wrong. I don't care if it's not what business users want... who doesn't want quality and clarity?

I can't believe these things still have a VGA adapter plug. What's the point? Almost all projectors and TV's now operate at least on DVI if not on HDMI. While I still like the resolution of the TP's this is one serious reason I would bail to a Mac Book Pro.... although at this point I'm still torn.... someone convince me otherwisecorsac wrote:It seems that 14.1 4:3 T61p are already available, at least in France, see

onix, I think we've all seen enough MacBook Pro defects around to give you pause.
That and you'd be feeding probably the worst company in the world.

VGA is a legacy device. But it's still the lowest-common denominator. Does the client site you're going to have a projector with HDMI? DVI? RGB maybe? Who knows. Bring the wrong dongle and you've just blown a sale.
But by golly, you can be sure it'll have a good'ole DB15!
Same with the parallel port. Business markets buy you reliability, not bleeding-edge.
But yeah, I'm with you guys. 14" WSXGA+ LED backlit, with 256MB FX 570M DDR3. I'd pay $2500 for that.

IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

Most recent psref (and tabook) contains it too:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... ref325.pdf
It is unclear however from the description in psref/tabook if the T61p fits the "ThinkPad® T61 Accessories" (the psref/tabook does not have a T61p Accessoiries page; the T61 Accessories page indicates "Partial list of accessories supported on:
• ThinkPad T61 originally announced on May 31, 2007
• ThinkPad T61 14W originally announced on May 9, 2007
• ThinkPad T61 15W originally announced on May 31, 2007").
Similar for the T60 accesories.
so: anyone knows if these T61 or T60 accesories will work on the T61p:
- Ultrabay Slim 9.5mm Serial Hard Drive Ultrabay Slim Adapter (flat) 40Y8725
- Wireless WAN, GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA support, Mini PCIe adapter and SIM, rod antenna, service contract reqd with AT&T®
- Some: Wireless WAN, GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA support, Mini PCIe adapter and SIM, retractable WWAN antenna, service contract required with Cingular®
Anyone who knows if 32-bit Vista version Lenovo ships will recognize the 4Gb memory?

Ok, that page is still the same, but if one clicks on the "other models" link (see http://www5.pc.ibm.com/uk/products.nsf/ ... d+T+Series), we can then see quite a few other T61p, including some with a 14"1 screen (not that I am personally interested in such a screen, but some seem to be). Most importantly, though, is that there doesn't seem to be any T61p with 256MB of Video memory.
Otherwise, just out of interest, why do they still offer 4GB, when Windows can only recognise 3GB?
Yeah, I'd have liked 256MB for the gpu too but not an option for now.agarny wrote:Most importantly, though, is that there doesn't seem to be any T61p with 256MB of Video memory.

Vista 64 bit will be able to fully use 4GB, not sure if you will get to choose 32bit/64bit when you start it up? No info from Lenovo whether the T61p is 32bit/64bit

Also, I am wondering about the 7k2 200 GB hard disk. *That* would be so nice to have!
Three of the last four projectors I have connected to in meeting rooms have only had VGA connectors available (one was in the ceiling, might have had DVI but there was only a VGA cable). So there is no way Lenovo (or anyone else making business laptops) should drop the VGA connector anytime soon.onix wrote:I can't believe these things still have a VGA adapter plug. What's the point? Interesting. What is the underlying architecture of the T61p? 32-bit or 64-bit? If the former, can Windows 64-bit really run on such an architecture?tomh009 wrote:The Vista Ultimate models should include both 32-bit and 64-bit.GarryF wrote:Vista 64 bit will be able to fully use 4GB, not sure if you will get to choose 32bit/64bit when you start it up? according to this article:
http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs. ... p-thinkpad
(At least in the US?) Why is everyone so upset about the screen, is it really that bad - I'm not a fan of widescreen either but its nto a deal breaker for me by any means

T61P now available for order (1-2 week ship time) on the U.S. site.
It is here:
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/notebooks/thinkpad/t-series
The last choice on the right, under ThinkPad Mobile Workstation.
As of now, no choice of screen - just the hi res 15.4.
Choosing Vista Ultimate does not offer a choice between 32 and 64 bit versions. (But I think Vista Business was available as a 64 bit version.)
So, how are people going to configure their T61Ps?

According to the Tabook, it weighs only 5.9 lbs with optical drive and 9-cell battery! This is much better than the 9-cell WUXGA Z61p (up to 7.3 lbs). Even the 15.4" WSXGA+ T60p with 9-cell is slightly heavier (up to 6.07 lbs). That's progress! This T61p is the only model in the *61 series that I've been impressed by so far. And it's fairly affordable, starting at $1,508.t41user wrote:As of now, no choice of screen - just the hi res 15.4.
