Well, you can configure all you like, but you can't place an order. There's no way to check out! I called and spoke with a representative, and he confirmed--no way to place an order today. This post will be worthless very soon, but it's interesting how they get everything all set up except for the part where they take your money! -- Ken

Ok, just saw that on the US website (they offer Vista Business 64). Nice! Ok, so that will be 4 GB for me... :)

If you're worried about compatibility, go with 32bit for now (afaik 64bit Windows still has driver compatibility issues on lot of hardware).

I notice Maya doesn't list ANY version of Vista for compatibility, so you might be best off calling autodesk and asking what they recommend.

Lenovo has changed the warranty offerings for the T61p currently showing on the site. As far as I can see, they are only offering an extended warranty (depot or onsite) beyond the standard one year in packages along with TP Protection. IOW, one can't purchase the extended onsite warranty without buying TP Protection, at least as of this moment (and from looking at the EPP site).

Edit: Checked back the next day and they fixed that so all warranty choices are available.

Congratulations! It looks like a fanTAStic machine indeed. I loved my Dell Inspiron 6000 (also with 15.4" WUXGA) and am sure I would love this T61p even more.

#72 Post by rajpanesar » Thu Jul 12, 2007 3:53 am

I have had a look @ Lenovo web site and tried using the compare option that they have but still cannot work the differences out. Therefore can any1 tell me the differences between the following T61p models?

UI03FIX: ThinkPad T61p
UI03FUK: ThinkPad T61p
UI03FXS: ThinkPad T61p
UI03FZY: ThinkPad T61p

Thx in advance.

They're part numbers. You need to provide 7 character product number (Type-model) which comes in "1234-ABC" format.

My dealer has come back and says Lenovo have confirmed that the gpu memory will be 256 and the UK website is in error, lets hope this is correct info.

Looking at the usa website the biggest 7200rpm they offer for now is 100GB, it's not such a big deal to replace this at a later date though.

True re the hard disk. Otherwise, I have just noticed that they have updated some information on the UK website. Of the 8 T61p with a 15.4" screen, only two of them mention 128 MB of video memory. Apart from that, the difference between the different models is very minor (audio, fax/modem and type of warranty, from what I can tell).

I think I am more or less ready to order . May I ask you which dealer you contacted?

Hi everyone,

First time posting here.

After a very long struggle trying to determine whether I should get a T60p, a G1S, a MBP or wait for the new T61p, the final moment came yesterday.

I web-ordered the only available T61p model listed by Lenovo Canada. The model is listed as a Top-Seller, although I don't understand how it can be such at this time, I hope it really meant Lenovo Canada had stocks of this model and I would not have to wait too long before it shows up at my door. :D

Will keep you folks posted if the order arrives.

Question for those who have experience buying from Lenovo Canada in the past year: is there a web-based tracking tool that you can use to track a web order? or I must call a sales rep to find out the status of an order?

TIA for any help.

The TopSeller models tend to have more aggressive pricing, and, as you note, will be more likely to be in stock.

Lenovo Canada does have a web-based order tracking, once you have received your order number:

X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

I don't know if it's because the angle of the pics, but it seems that the T60p doesn't have the asymmetric screen...

It looks asymmetric to me: there some gap to the left, while none to the right of the screen.

Thanks tomh009 for the link. However, it doesn't work for me - as it requires some kind of registration.

So I called Lenovo Canada minutes ago and was told the shipment would take 3 to 6 weeks (because it was a new product); i.e. he didn't know when they could ship. :(

Oh well, I'll hang on to my T42 for now then...

Also, the rep said I would have to call them to track order status as there was no online order tracking available.

How did you find that CTO page? I can't find any 14.1" 4:3 T61s via the Lenovo front door or through EPP.

Any idea if CTO machines can be configured through the EPP?

Came across this review today, I don't know the accuracy of it but so far lenovo has no info on the model the person reviewed.

By Frank J. Ohlhorst, CRN
3:39 PM EDT Thu. Jul. 12, 2007

Lenovo's new ThinkPad T61P is the fastest notebook ever to come through the CRN Test Center.
The new notebook, which is being released next week, is built on Intel's Centrino Duo (codenamed Santa Rosa) and is the first to sever connections with the past by eliminating the IBM moniker altogether. It scored a PassMark 6.1 overall performance rating of 661.3, the highest score ever turned in by a notebook evaluated by the Test Center.

Performance is only part of the T61P's story; the notebook also offers excellent ergonomics. The keyboard is responsive and rivals the best desktop keyboards on the market, while the screen is bright and sharp, exhibiting no ghosting or dead pixels.

Test Center engineers also were impressed with the fit and finish of the notebook. The unit tested was equipped with an Intel T7700 2.4Ghz processor, 2Gbytes of RAM, and a 7200 RPM 100-Gbyte hard disk drive. The discrete graphics were handled via an Nvidia QuardroFX 570M graphics subsystem, powering a 15" WUXGA+ 1900 x 1200 display.

VARs will be impressed by the laundry list of features offered with the T61P, which includes a DVD Multi-burner, 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a plethora of ports and card readers.

A travel weight of around seven pounds rounds out the package, and when set to the high-performance mode, the notebook delivers roughly three hours of battery life. A maximum power-savings setting extends that battery life to a little more than five hours; of course, as with any battery powered device, your mileage may vary.

With a list price of $2,703 with Windows Vista Business 32, the T61P (model 6457-Z5U) may be a budget buster, but most users will find the unit worth every penny. On the flip side, if one is willing to sacrifice a little performance and a couple of features, a whole flock of notebooks from many vendors offer viable alternatives.

But for those with pockets deep enough, that $2,703 will get them a notebook that offers high speed, a beautiful display and a plethora of options that may very well make the T61P the best notebook on the market. Well, for today at least.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
