X61s with 3GB RAM?

#1 Post by d3 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 4:15 am

Hi

Is it possible to use 1x1GB and 1x2GB memory modules in a x61?
If it is possible, then the memory won't operate in dual channel mode. Does this affect the speed of the thinkpad? Would it be a better idea to use 2x2GB? What about the power consumption?

It is possible. It should work fine. I don't think you will notice the difference with the dual channel thing. 2x2GB is better, and might eventually be supported if you install a 64bit OS. I have read mixed results with the 32Bit OS of as much as 3.5GB being recognized.
I'm using 2x1GB on the X60 Tablet and it works quite well. I'd like to try 2x2GB and see if I notice a difference.

On ThinkPads, you will only see about 3 GB with a 32-bit OS; 64-bit operating systems can see the full 4 GB on the X61, T61 and R61.
