Sleeve for X61 tablet with 8-cell battery...(PIC)

#1 Post by noetus » Wed Jul 11, 2007 3:22 pm

I've been researching a sleeve to get for an X61 tablet. I know there is another sleeve thread but it doesn't address my question, which is what to do about the 8-cell battery that makes the laptop about 1 1/2 " deeper (or maybe 2"?).

I ordered a sleeve from Tom Bihn (size 5) for the X61 but it doesn't fit with the 8-cell battery (even though the 8-cell ships as standard from Lenovo).

I have found this and this and this on eBay. These look like nice sleeves - especially the first one, I like soft neoprene sleeves. Any idea which of these would work with the X61 tablet with 8-cell battery? Probably not the last one but maybe the first or the second? (I don't have a machine on hand to measure.)

The Lenovo/IBM Tabook.pdf says for the X61 Tablet...

Dimensions without X6 UltraBase: 4-cell: 10.8" x 9.6" x 1.1-1.3"; 274mm x 244mm x 27.4-33.1mm

Dimensions without X6 UltraBase: 8-cell: 10.8" x 10.5" x 1.1-1.3"; 274mm x 267mm x 27.4-33.1mm

...if that is of any help for you!

It seems -according to the advertized- ebay dimensions of the sleeves, that none of them fits the Tablet together with the 8-cell battery.

This hard to find thread and the first post by me in it, and a later post with a pic by xaveon, have a sleeve that address the 8 cell battery.

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

The Tablet sleeve Lenovo sells, that's made by Targus has an insert that is removed when using the 8 cell.

There are other really nice sleeves mentioned in the thread that also work with the 8 cell.

I spent the last 30 minutes searching for that thread. I knew it wasn't very old, but I had a really hard time finding it. This is not my first experience trying to find items in the search, with no luck.

Hi proaudioguy, it's funny, I found that thread last week and ordered the Tom Bihn case as a result of reading it.. guess I didn't read it carefully enough

now, the case you are recommending from Lenovo looks a bit bulky. Is it as bulky as it looks in the pictures? What I am looking for is a thin lightweight sleeve, ideally neoprene (though not essential) that is really basic and has NO extra pockets or flaps or straps or anything. Just a basic sleeve that can be used when you pop the thinkpad in another carry case, like a briefcase. And which will work with the 8-cell battery. And I don't see any cases fitting that description on the other thread... or anywhere else. Am I out of luck?

It will not fit your needs. There are lots of threads with links to neoprene sleeves. I think something called waterfield is popular.

I have had several bags and cases from http://www.sfbags.com. The SleeveCase is available in sizes for many laptops, including the X-series.

I bought a Waterfield sleeve for the X61 tablet with 8-cell battery from sfbags.com. I intend on posting pictures soon...

Can you post links to photos of it with your X6x tablet?

Is the material rigid and sturdy enough so that it can protect the screen in tablet mode?

The dimensions for this sleeve (11.25" x 10.25" x 1.25") seem a bit large for the X6x tablet with 8 cell X6x (dimensions above)?

Bump for photos.

Other photos of good sleeves welcome, especially with a rigid body and handles. I would like to store the X61 in tablet mode without fear of smashing the screen.

You will find exactly what you're looking for here, www.aussiebag.com, a protection pack for a X61 tablet 8 cell battery.

I bought the first "THIS"

Awesome case. Very stylish. Got one for my X31 that I gave to my folks. It's traveling around Europe now (along with them). Although it doesn't fit like a glove (which would have been a nice feature) it protects the X61s VERY well. The case is pretty generic so it'll fit a X61T as well.

With the 8-cell? That would be good.

I am also looking for a sleeve that can be used to slip in and out of my Lenovo backpack that I bought recently. My mistake, I purchased the sleeve that fits the x41 not the x61 and it did in fact fit with the 8 cell battery. One thing that I did not like about it, however, is the fact it was a little bulky and the plastic cover that protects the screen in tablet mode was a little flimsy. It did not fit flush onto the screen and so it looks a little strange and screen is distorted.

I'm really looking like everyone else for something that does fit like a glove. I went to that Waterfield site but it appears that the cases there are a little thicker and might have a hard time fitting into the pocket of my bag.

Any more suggestions and photos from people would be great!

Did you read the other threads on this topic?

Nothing new and revolutionary has come up in terms of cases, so most of this topic has been discussed to death.

Waterfield cases are as sung as you can get, without sacrifice to the protecting your Tablet. That's the real goal, isn't it? What's the point of something that fits well if it doesn't really do anything? Might as well stretch some pantyhose around the Tablet.

I'm happy with my Waterfield sleeve. Love em.

I went ahead and ordered a vertical one for my X61 tablet, fits snugly and feels well-protected. They discouraged vertical because the 8-cell makes it almost the same size in both dimensions, but it's worked out well for me.

WOW! Let me just say that I thank whomever it was that refered me to sfbags.com. The Sleeve for my x61t with 8 cell fits like a glove. I was impressed by what I saw on the site and the reviews, so instead of just the sleeve, I got the cargo bag combo as well, and it is unreal. I loved the look, had it for only 1 week, and I actually was stopped by more than one person who asked where I got it from. If you get a chance, go to the site and look at the medium cargo bag, lead color, with the sleeve and cable guy accessory carrier. It is worth it..Yes, a little pricey but worth it!!

I too bought a waterfield bag for my X61 tablet with the 8 cell battery. It is very much worth the extra money. Perfect fit.

I wish I bought one for my T60p. I used a regular Targus Laptop bag for the T60. Sadly, the velcro straps that prevent the laptop from tumbling out if you leave the case open left wear marks on the lid of the T60.
