Vista Upgrade

#1 Post by bfd3832 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:18 pm

I have a T60 Model 2613CTO
t2700
1GB ram
x1400

I am wanting to upgrade to vista. I would really like to do a clean install, however I do not think I am knowledgeable enough to do so. Would I be able to purchase Vista Ultimate "Upgrade" and not have to worry about reformatting and loadinging drivers? Would it basically be as simple as inserting the CD and following on-screen prompts?

I've read through the FAQ and guides, but am still a bit confused on the matter. Any information would be appreicated.

You can read instructions from lenovo:

1. Guide to setup Windows Vista - Notebooks

2. Microsoft Windows Vista™ Support Guide

and some basic info. on upgrades from Microsoft:

Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade

Lastly, which part of the guide confused you? you can always ask questions.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

My experience with my t60 2623D7U was as follows:

Wiped hard drive clean partitioned to ntfs, inserted Vista DVD and laoded operating system. (VistaBusines). Vista will practically have every driver you need to run your system. The Lenvoo stuff you can download either with the driver matrix page or use Software Installer. Make sure you have at least a gig or more of ram though.

I believe Kyocera meant ThinkVantage System Update 3.0 instead of "Software Installer". AFAIK, Software Installer only works with XP and older versions of Windows.

When you did this, did you use the upgrade version of Vista Business, or the full version?

Did this about two or three months ago, used the full retail version with product key. Works great.

All right. Thanks for the information.

I'm going to try the upgrade route, and do a fresh install with the upgrade dversion, as mentioned in one of the threads above this.

I think I'm finally comfortable making the move to Vista now.

So did I. This software update thing does not grab all the drivers and apps and load them for me. All it has done for me (under vista) is update itself and install the system interface driver. Total waste of time.
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.

ThinkPad Tablet 16GB 1838-22U

I'm having the same problem. I got Vista up and running, and it's great. However, the only things I can't accomplish is getting my ThinkVantage Button and volume buttons to work. The volume buttons function, but it does not show the volume bars on the screen when used. The ThinkVantage button doesn't work at all. Also, I can't get the trackpoint/ultranav to work properly. It's not allowing me to hold the center button and scroll with the trackpoint. I have installed the drivers. I don't know what to do from here.

To get the OSD to work properly you need to download the system interface driver. Once that is loaded in, reboot and you should be good to go.

Is that under System utilities?

Yes and make sure you actually install the drivers after you download them, they should be in the ibmtools>drivers folder on C:. run the setup.exe.

Thank You all for the help.

This has been a painless experience, which is far from what I expected.
