New X61s user's few questions

#1 Post by gowei » Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:55 am

Hello,

This is my first post on this board so I shout shortly introduce myself. I need my new X61s for my studies at the university (physics). The other thing about me is that my English may be not as perfect as yours (it’s probably terrible).

Ok, let’s get back to the point. I received my X61s last week with preinstalled Vista operating system (business version). Vista is very nice but its uses to much resources so I decided to install XP pro (I have unused license). And here is my question. Will there by any problem with drivers for XP?

There is also “restore” partition on hard drive, will it be available for XP installer? Should I leave it as it is, or what?

My other question is about battery. The one I got (I had no choice when buying) is standard 2Ah battery and I’m going to buy 8 cell. Is 40Y7005 battery appropriate for X61s?

That’s probably all for now (as I know myself I’ve forgot about something).

Best regards
Martin

Martin, welcome to the forums, and your English is excellent!

All the drivers are available for Windows XP as well, there is no problem there. If you leave the restore partition intact when you install XP, you'll be able to easily install Vista at a later date.

If you can get access to burner via the dock or USB, burning off the recovery discs before you dump Vista probably isn't a bad idea either.

I did not backup the program files folder and lost the firefox plugin for the fingerprint reader - probably some other things, but that's all I care about. The xpi is probably on the backup discs I burned, but I haven't looked at them yet

As far as drivers, I have one unknown device - ATM 1200 is the device manager ID. Computer works fine without it though.
