Ultra Bay Battery on T60

I just bought an ultra bay bat for my ts0 2623-d6u, 120/2G/Vista Enterprise.

when on battery power, both batteries seem to be discharging at the same time. It seems as though one should be used up then the next kick in?? Is there something I am missing?

Help please

well i thought so too but if you say both are going at the sametime then that might be goood unless you bought the ultrabay one to save your main battery. You want them to die together instead of 1 at a time. Normally what i've heard is that the ultrabay goes first then the main, well that's bad for the UB one because it will get the most wear and therefore damage the cells faster.

I'm thinking of getting a UB battery too for my system as i just love long battery life

Wonder if that's a better investment compared to another AC adapter (one at home and one at work)

I have an adapter in 3 locations... it's when I am not there... Still not clear on the drain

well open up power manager and then run it off the batteries and see which one has "discharging" under it's "Status" heading. If both are discharging then you are right and you should be happy that you are.

On my Z61p running either XPsp2 or Vista Business, the Ultrabay battery would discharge first, then the main battery. My preference would be the opposite. Discharge the main battery and run off of the Ultrabay while swapping in a spare main battery.

That pattern hurt the Ultrabay battery. After about a month of use, it would only take a 69% charge. I'm hoping with my new T61p and a new ultrabay battery to set things up so that the Ultrabay battery is used to maximize its life.

I keep a charger at each regularly visited spot.

to find the date you use the same program i mentioned above. If you don't have it installed then install it

It's the Power MAnager app, you go to the battery information tab and it tells you the manufactured date as well as the cycle count as well as actual capacity left and when it was first used and all that sorta info.

6-15-2007 Sony I just got it two days ago is there a setting in power mgr to select which battery goes first, etc.?

I was only trying to help you find the answer to someone else's question.

To your question tho yes there is a difference. The main battery is Lithium Ion (Li-on) while the UB one is Lithium Polymer (Li-pol)

it does matter for me, because i heard about several issues about the ultrabay battery...maybe they solved them, but i don´t know it. Maybe i will find auout this in the next weeks using the battery.

Mine is manufactured 17-05-07, let´s see how long it works...

Sorry to be so stupid, so is the final analysis that both batteries will drain simultaneously? Do I need to call Lenovo although I doubt any of their techs know any more than anybody else.

I don't think that the ultrabay battery is all that useful, though. After all, it stores only half the energy of the 6-cell (= one-third of the 9-cell) battery.

It proves useful for me as I travel (long flights) relatively often and I dislike rebooting my system in the middle of working.

I run the 9 cell until it is at the 5-10% level. I then plug in the UB battery, remove the dead 9 cell and replace it with another.

I rarely leave the UB battery in the system other than in a pinch for power or to recharge it for the next swap.

Fair enough, but a quick suspend-to-disk does not take that much time and you don't have to restart your applications.

well i think a 9 cell and a UB battery would work wonders on the 20hr flight to Australia my GF is taking on Tuesday, she bought 2 batteries for her Dell just so she wont go crazy. If she had the option i do while she would be better off because even with 2 batteries (one after the other) she still wont get the battery life i would.

Call me crazy but it seems with an extra battery in the system at the sametime it just lasts much longer. I had a Dell Latitude C610 with 2 batteries that barely got 1Hr each but with both of them in the system (and all 7lbs of it) i could get 3hrs. That way atleast i could download make a divx movie and play it for the whole 2hrs it lasts, couldn't do that with a single battery at a time even if i had to suspend and continue, i would get maybe 1 1/2hrs if i did it that way.

Well I am leaving the batery info open and do see that the UB battery is going first, so I see the idea of thresholding the discharge/charge to avoid killing it off prematurely. Thanks everyone for your help.
