Hibernation option gone?! Unable to hibernate?!

#1 Post by jamess » Sat Jul 14, 2007 10:43 am

I have a very strange problem, which occured i don't know why/when.

Fn + F12 doesn't work anymore, as well as under windows shut down menu - there is no Hibernate option available anymore.

What can I do to fix that? If i go to power manager options and check "Enable hibernation" it simply doesn't work. When i reopen that same settings window, check isn't there anymore...

please help

Yes, i did try that. Without success though :(

EDIT: Oh no!! Sleep mode gone missing too ?! I can't put my computer to sleep mode neither hibernate?!

EDIT 2: I don't have a clue how this happened as i haven't been installing anything except video driver. I have tried system restore point - but didn't help. I simply don't have hibernate/sleep mode available no more. Sleep mode is a must for me, so i'd really appreciate your help.

I lost hibernate as well. I think I deleted the hibernation file during cleanup. The choice for hibernation is nowhere.

Under "Control Pane", "Power Options", "Hibernate". Make sure the "enable hibernation" box is checked.

If it is already checked, try to uncheck, reboot, and recheck again.

Sounds like the ACPI drivers are corrupted or missing.

Does Thinkpad Power Manager for Vista still have the "Global Power Settings" tab? In XP, that tab has a checkbox for "enable hibernation."

Although I was sure it could not have been the new video driver... It was! Both hibernation and sleep mode were gone after I've applied the new driver via thinkvantage update.

I removed the driver, reinstalled the original one found in c:/drivers and everything is back to normal. I seriously don't know why it happened, I am just happy it's back to normal again :)

You need to open CMD as an administrator, otherwise it will not work. If u don't have the sleep option as well it might be that you had hybrid sleep (combination of sleep and memory dump) turned on. Since you deleted the hibernation file hybrid sleep will not work too.

I had restored to a new HD and hibernate was back for several weeks until the other day when I ran system update. I just tried this command line and the option came back. How on earth did you know that command?
