If your Tpfancontrol doesn't work

#1 Post by DaveinTampa » Sat Jul 14, 2007 8:08 pm

Initially I couldn't get my tpfancontrol to work, kept getting the error winio.sys is missing...

Must have obsessed for two hours over this.

Then I noticed that the Thinkpad T43 Fan Control was running in my windows task manager.

Then I found it in the sys tray.

So if you get an error about the winio.sys - it might be because it's already running!

There is a setting in the fancontrol.ini that by default minimizes the app to the sys tray.

To turn this off edit the fancontrol.ini and change
MinimizeToSysTray=1 to MinimizeToSysTray=0

Just thought I'd share.

Tpfancontrol tip

#2 Post by mgo » Sat Jul 14, 2007 8:56 pm

Thanks for the tip. I'm running the old (ver one point eight) tpfancontrol on my T43p. It's nice to be able to cut back on the irritating fan whine.

Just in case you are interested, my .ini settings are:
Level=47 0
Level=50 1
Level=55 1
Level=60 3
Level=70 128

Sometimes under heavy load the fan will revert to BIOS and run fast till things cool off.

which is a good mix of quiet vs. cooling on my T43p. My R52 & T60 are pretty quiet anyway, so I do not use tpfancontrol on them.
