My new T61 bluescreened the first day I got it. I restored it to factory specifications using the Thinkvantage restore function. It worked better but a few odd things afterward made me call support (didn't know if they might or might not be related). Support had me run hardware diagnostics using the Thinkvantage software (click the Thinkvantage button right after you see the first screen -- go to the hardware checks) and pcdoctor reported the CPU multicore misconfigured and the SMBIOS standards test failed. Here are the details:
CPU: Multicore Test...Misconfigured
Warning (51): There are 2 cores in the CPU and only 1 core is enabled.
Warning (53): We need a minimum of two cores to run the test.
SMBIOS: SMBIOS
SMBIOS: Standards Test...Failed
Found SMBIOS v2.4
Testing to SMBIOS v2.4.0 standards
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t5_voltage with code 252.
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t6_err_status with code 248.
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t6_err_status with code 248.
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t17_err_info_handle with code 1.
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t17_err_info_handle with code 1.
Error (4): Failure reported on subtest validate_t20_range with code 1.
Using pcdoc in windows, the multicore is okay so I do not know if the "misconfigured" diagnosed from pcdoc in the partition is important.
I was instructed to send it off for repair.
It came back 25 days later. Running the same initial hardware tests from the hidden partition, I get the same CPU misconfigured and SMBIOS standards test failure. I called support and they said to send it back in again.
But it seems to work okay.
Are the results I'm seeing common results? Or significant? I have had no luck trying to find out what the errors indicate.
Do all T61's fail the SMBIOS Standards Test?

I can't answer your question but I happened to notice that there's a new version of PC Doctor for DOS at this link:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67910
It was released 10 July 2007. Perhaps it will fix the error you're getting. Maybe you're already running this version:

Thanks for the link.
Summary of changes
Version 2.0.1614
* (Fix) Wrong CPU label on Celeron models.
* (New) Removed Intel Ethernet MAC Loopback test.
Version 2.0.1602
* (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad R61, T61 X61, X61s.
It doesn't look like this will address the SMBIOS issue but it's good to know there may be a newer version. I'll check to see which one I have later.

Another possible cause of the failure:
SMBIOS v2.4 is the version on my T61
SMBIOS v2.5 is the most recently accepted version.
DSP0134: System Management BIOS Reference Specification, v2.5 Final (2.24Mb pdf) (09/08/2006)
http://www.dmtf.org/standards/published ... 5Final.pdf
As you note, date on this is last September. The site does not have the date for v2.4.
Is mine the only T61 with this older version or do they all have this older version?
