Thinkpad T60 + 4GB + Windows XP

#1 Post by dmdsoftware » Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:42 am

I installed 4GB into my Thinkpad T60 today to realize that I can only use 2.99GB.

Are there any workarounds? Is this a Windows problem or a Lenovo problem? Can I get the full 4GB in Linux?

This has been covered at least a dozen times already, but...

There are no workarounds. There is a limitation in 32-bit Windows AND there is a limitation in the T60.

You cannot use 4GB in Linux on the T60. You *can* use 4GB on the T61 using a 64-bit OS, either Windows or Linux.

Having 4GB in the machine is not COMPLETELY useless, though. When both memory slots have the same size modules, they run in a combined mode and run about 8% to 10% faster than if you had one 1GB module and one 2GB module.
Machine-Project: 750P, 600X, T42, T60, T400, X1 Carbon Touch

I heard the 32bit 686 bigmem kernel handles more than 4GB of RAM but I guess if the T60 has some other hardware limitation then it won't help.
