T61 doesn't sit flat on table.

#1 Post by pyroman002 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 4:12 pm

My T61's right corner, under the palm rest, moves down when sitting on a flat surface. It is somewhat elevated compared to the other corners. It is very slight, and might be correctable by shaving down the rubber foot so there isn't as much give in it.

Is this a common problem, or one worth calling lenovo about.

It is kinda annoying. Thanks.

some have reported of warped chassis which would result in rocking. its up to you, shouldnt be a problem, just annoying. lenovo would probably have to replace the whole computer.

Personally I would lay a thin cloth on a flat table, lay the laptop down upside down (the display on the bottom and the bottom side up), loosen all the screws 1 turn, then tighten all the screws. If that does not fix it then I would call up Lenovo and get it replaced.
Your table really is flat...right?

Sales rep is going to call me back after getting out-of-21-day return setup. I will try the screws.

FWIW my T61 has the same problem. Same lower right corner as well.

yeah, people have been mentioning this. A T61 I had for awhile had the same thing, but not so pronounced. As long as it's not *rocking* you should be okay. But definitely get things fixed to your satisfaction as soon as possible, under 21 days if at all possible.

I believe I have a fix for this.

Loosen (about 2 turns) the screws to the RAM cover, which basically the hand rest.

Then set the machine on the table, right side up.

Then open the lid, make sure the hand rest is fully seated... firm pressure but not GRRR-ILLA style.

Carefully close the lid, making sure it is latched.

Carefully flip the machine an place carefully on its back.

Tighten the four screws.

All should be well.

I had a slightly "warped" chassis as well, until I replaced my memory. Once I reseated the cover and carefully tightened the screws, the wobble went away.
