t61 w/wwan AND intel turbo mem? help!

#1 Post by jchow » Mon Jul 16, 2007 8:24 pm

Hi i was wondering about my conifiguration (whether or not itll even work)

so i ordered my t61 and when i looked at the config it says nvidia quad 140m w/wwan and also it chose to get the intel turbo mem

will those 2 configs work? because when i ordered the system it had the option for me to choose intel turbo mem PLUS the vid card didnt say it had wwan like the x3100 did -_- so i didnt no =\ would it be better to reorder it? to save some money?

i really dont wanna wait too long to find out if it will be ok.

for me id rather have the intel turbo memory rather than the wwan because i doubt ill ever really use it...

WWAN and Turbo Memory uses the same port so that's why you can't have both. They use the Express slot in the laptop so you have to choose.

The video card has nothing to do with whether it has WWAN or not - you get WWAN options with all video cards but as already stated you only have 2 mini pci express slots, one is used by wireless LAN and the other is either used by WWAN or Turbo Memory.

i have one more question =x

would it be better to just not get the intel turbo memory? it is 50 dollars extra and there isnt very significant improvements.
I was wondering whether or not to take out that intel turbo memory (but wait a few extra days for them to reorder =\)
also, would there be better versions of the intel turbo memory that come out? or will software issues in the future fix it up?
im not sure if gettin it right now would be the best use of my 50 dollars =p

so i just wanted to no if it was worht not gettin it anymore or gettin it

thanks

turbo memory from intel is waste of money. it will be better off if you just get a sd reader and stick in a 2gb sd card

Or spend a few more bucks and juice up the internal memory.

I simply don't think that is true, depending on what you are accessing on the HDD, Intel Turbo Memory can improve drive access by upto 40% - i've never seen performance like that from either SD or USB implementations (and its even better than hybrid drive performance), it also saves a bit of battery life (about 10 minutes)

50 dollars is nothing and your definitely not going to dislike having Turbo Memory so i'd advise to keep it as you cannot upgrade to it in the future if you dont get it at the start (unless you have a WWAN system instead).

well if you plan on using and KEEPING Windows Vista then keep turbo memory since it wont hurt performance at all and might just boost it a lil. If you do i guess you can always sell it on ebay or something but it's not bad to have. Right now it only offers a smalll boost via Vista's ReadyBoost feature but if you wont be using Vista then no point in keeping it as i said.

(odds are you wont be using WWAN because it's $60 - $80 a month anyways :) If your scrownging about an extra 50 then that per month is a big no-no for you :) )
