x61s on ebay $1100 - too good to be true?
I want to purchase this "new x61s" on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0147010008
Is it a good idea?
I'm a little suspicious.....
Much appreciated!

There's a couple things wrong with that link, first my X61s doesn't have an infrared port - none of them do. 2nd unless they revised where the thumbreader is at, the picture might just be a placeholder - it lists a 4cell battery in the specs, but the picture shows an 8 cell.
Get some clarifications on those items and you're set.
Personally I got my X61s for $999.xx after fatcash, tailormade, triple coupon, and shareholder
LV7300 1.4ghz, 512ram, 80gb, ultralight screen, bluetooth, thumprint reader, 8 cell battery, cheap thinkpad wireless - not a huge difference to what's linked, if the specs can be trusted.

I saw that one as well
I placed an order for a X61s with Ultralight display last week for an upcoming trip, but not sure its going to be shipped from Lenovo in time (Aug 1st). This isnt the exact config I want, but it will do if I can get the Ultralight display. I have contacted the seller asking more about the specs of these two for sale.

Here's a similarly suspicious ** 2 GB ** x61s on ebay as well
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0145548624
2 gigs of memory? for only $1100. Very wild, man.
Both sellers have good feedback....

The description says "upgraded 2GB DDR2 667MHz Ram (with lifetime manu warranty)", which implies that the seller did the upgrade him/herself. 2x1GB PC2-5300 modules are very cheap these days, as low as $45 for a matched pair, so it's not that wild IMO.darkbeethoven wrote:2 gigs of memory? for only $1100. Yes, but that blatantly contradicts the sellers statement "Not refurbished, Factory Sealed, Never Opened." Given that I find it pretty hard to trust him. Who knows what else he is lying about?pianowizard wrote:The description says "upgraded 2GB DDR2 667MHz Ram (with lifetime manu warranty)", which implies that the seller did the upgrade him/herself. 2x1GB PC2-5300 modules are very cheap these days, as low as $45 for a matched pair, so it's not that wild IMO.darkbeethoven wrote:2 gigs of memory? for only $1100. Sometimes sellers ship the memory separately from the sealed laptop so you have to install the memory yourself - that way they can make the claims without contradiction. These sellers are perfectly legit, though perhaps not giving you the bargain you thought you were getting. Other sellers open the package despite listing it as sealed, then say, peevishly, when you complain, "How else was I supposed to install the memory I listed with it?" (I somehow doubt PayPal/eBay would uphold a complaint against someone like this - "significantly not as described", anyone?) Sometimes these sellers are being crafty and dishonest, actually selling used or refurbished machines and then using the supposed unavoidable seal-breaking of the package to install the extra memory as a ruse to cover up the fact that the machine is NOT new and was already opened when they took delivery of it (this happened to me once and I was not pleased). Try emailing a couple of the buyers of similar spec'ed machines from the seller to get the story before you bid. Or ask the seller to confirm whether they are shipping you the memory separately for a self-install (in which case pianowizard is on the right track - it's not such a great bargain).Antioch wrote: Yes, but that blatantly contradicts the sellers statement "Not refurbished, Factory Sealed, Never Opened." Success!
I got the brand-spankin-new x61s, and I'm already in love with it.
All the features are working and there is no damage. The laptop came in the original, un-opened packaging and everything is in order.
The ebay seller's name was "dmlaptops". Solid purchase!
Thanks for everybody's comments!
