Internet connection sharing win2KPro

#1 Post by PCSAR 4x4 652 » Tue May 25, 2004 2:26 pm

Having a problem with the internet connection sharing...
If I am connected on my laptop, my desktop can share the connection. Reversed, My laptop can't share the connection made by the desktop. ICS is enabled on both computers. Can't seem to find out why it won't work both ways.

I'm running win2kpro on both witha LAN, Norton Internet Security Pro.

Any ideas????????????????

host and guest ??? I missed that somehow, never saw that option. also, the enable box for "obtain DNS server address" is greyed out in the tcp/ip properties.

Where is the host/guest switch option located???

In case you have not solved your ICS problem:

Desktop:
Set your tools>internet options>connections>"Never Dial a connection"

Notebook:
Set your tools>internet options>connections>"Dial whenever a network connection is not present"

Under the properties of dial-up-networking, enable ICS.

This way, when the desktop tries to establish internet connection, its request will be sent via the LAN to the notebook, which will initiate a dial-up.

btw, there is something about this "Network Bridge" thingie in XP which will be enabled. I recall that it is automatically configured when you enable ICS.

Anyone tried enabling ICS on *both* machines yet? So far, I usually enable it on *one* of them and make sure that the "guest" machine has dial-up disabled. Otherwise the "guest" machine will sometimes act smart and do a dial-up before the "host" can do so.
