2 hours battery on T60 Duo - normal?
2 hours battery on T60 Duo - normal?
Hi,
When I unplug my power adaptor on a fully charged battery then it tells me that I have 2:00hr battery life! Yet when I speak to other thinkpad owners they tell me that they get double this. I spoke to someone running a T60 Duo (not exactly the same as mine), and an X series owner. Both claim 3 hrs on standard battery. Heck, I get less than that on the extended battery!
The only difference I see is that I installed Vista (non factory install - I purchased it myself). I have Vista Aero disabled.
I installed the ACPI driver, and Lenovo Power Management. I did not install any other Lenovo drivers as all worked via Windows Update (I installed Active Protection).
So what could be going wrong?
This is using the Power Source Optimised setting.

well did you install the power manager thing to see what's the capacity you have left on the battery? You might have a bad one that only has 1/2 it's original capacity so cehck that out first before.
Also if the above is fine is your system configured similarly to theirs? Such as the amount of RAM (more volts to power the extra one) type of HD (7200RPM vs 5400RPM) and so on? Maybe you have a hi-res screen also which drains the battery faster (more pixels need more power).
Check those out before you go comparing battery life, can't blend apples and then blend oranges and expect the juice to taste like pineapple.

There have been many reviews stating that vista is a battery hog compared to XP.
I have noticed a decrease in battery time when i switched over to vista. But my power meter on my extended says 5 hours when i unplug it at 100% life.
Make sure you have all the proper power management software installs and tweaks. Also check your bios settings to ensure your using power saving features.

You can try:
Dimming your screen
Telling your HD to spin down sooner (are you idle often?)
Telling the CPU to throttle down more aggressively
My T61 with 6 cell battery usually gets about 3 hrs with a modest bright screen. (step 5, i think)
At the lowest brightness, I get about 3hrs 40-50min, but that's just surfing around, writing posts on forums : )
So I'm using the wireless antenna, but my CPU is usually only around 700mhz or so.

The power went out today after a storm rolled through. My 1 cycle 6 cell battery in my T60p went approximately 3 hours 10 minutes. After the first hour I turned off the radio. I minimized the screen brightness too.
I was suprised that I was able to run that long.
